I came across this when I took a couple of people off ignore in preparing a different post.

This was so grossly wrong (and malicious) I wanted to clarify some things.

In this the OP puts up a link to a talk given in a recent General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. The Speaker is Patrick Kearon, a member of the church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The poster then follows with what looks like statements from Kearon:

The quoted section starts:

"My brothers and sisters, the cult worship of Donald Trump is destroying everything in this country, and making a mockery of the religious precepts you all profess to love. I call you to repent from a political ideology that couldn’t be more at odds with your spiritual aspirations.

followed by a number of statements to this same level of garbage.

Now....I watched this talk when it was given. I was dumbfounded by the quotes because he NEVER SAID ANYTHING of the sort. He did not say anything that was stated by the OP.

I repeate....He said nothing of the sort.

He discussed his experience in the church and how community is so important. He talk about faith and a host of other uplifting topics.

I am going to address some of the follow up comments because I believe people need to know this charade.

I also want people to understand that the LDS church teaches a number of things regarding government. And they also teach maximum liberty. That is why Utah is so ardently red.

Regarding the constitution:

5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me.

6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;

Ezra Taft Benson, the 13th president of the church, had served as the Secty of Agriculture under Eisenhower. He was known for his feeling about those who were communists and sought to destroy liberty. It was an interesting time when he became president.

Benson delvered an address that is not religious but is fundamental to conservative principles entitled "The Proper Role of Government". I highly recommend it.l

The Book of Mormon speaks a great deal about government. In it, there are warnings of what are called secrete combinations (such as cabals and those who are set up to destroy liberty and deny people justice....all in the quest for domination and power).

The current president Dalling H. Oaks, a former member of the Utah Supreme Court, who at one time was being considered for the SCOTUS, has spoken at length on religious liberty (at large interfaith leadership gatherings) and how precious it is to maintaining overall liberty.

The misquotes of the OP are his own. I'll address those later.

In the thread listed above (and closed...I can only assume because it is a blatant lie), you stated:

Okay, so are you claiming this guy is a Mormon?
Well I guess he is, and their methods of vetting have failed them, because this guy's a snake in the grass that needs a decent shovel panging.

**********************

Yes, he is a mormon. And it is your failure to take this with any kind of suspicion that is evident. He did not say those things and if I heard someone say, for instance, that the pope had said something so outrageous, I would have confirmed it first.

Are you really going to let yourself be lied to and led around like this?

Post #4:

This is a pretty messed up situation if ya ask me.
This guy is obviously an infiltrator to do harm.
Not quite as messed up as LSD, though. Depending on how you look at it.
This thing is way more evil than some 'head getting wiggety wacked.
But they'll be out of it more. :dunno:
This man is 100% going to hell, if things work like I think they do.

You were had by one of the biggest jackasses on the board.

Congratulations.

The LDS Church is NOT Christian.

************************

You are in no position to judge.

I don't care in you live under the Salt Lake Temple.

Missouri_Mike

Looks like the Mormons have the same pathetic leadership the Catholics do.

**********************

The LDS church is very careful about what it says regarding leaders.

We are encouraged to research and pray for guidance.

Kearon never voiced any of those lies.

Votto

God is in control, not you and certainly not this man who leads a cult known as Mormonism.

*********************

And you stated Trump wasn't Christian.

That's a great opinion. Worthless, but great....for nothing.

And if Mormonism is a cult, other "christian churches" could take some lessons on being better cults.

You completely misrepresented what I wrote. Those were my words, not the Church leader's. And, yes, to me, Trump and Hegseth are modern-day anti-Christs.

I have high admiration for most of the leaders in the Fifteen. A couple not so much.

A friend of mine, a minister from Mobile, told me in the General Session he watched, he counted over thirty references to Jesus Christ and one about Joseph Smith.

My mistake was not being more clear which words were mine, and for that I apologize.

I find the 15 are far superior individuals to the LDS members who are MAGA and Alt Right.

I have a GA emeritus as a good friend, and the leading LDS priesthood leaders here are outstanding men.

He has told me he thinks not one of the 15 voted for Trump last time.

No one told a lie. You misrepresented what I said because I should have said it better.

If you deny that, you will be the one lying.

Trump in no way shape or form acts like any real Christian I have known, whether Catholic or Baptist or Mormon or free believer.

Hafar1014

So according to your small mind anyone who doesnt believe in Jesu sis the anti christ.

**********************

If that is the opinion of the OP, then that is his opinion.

But don't believe for a minute that is the position of the LDS church.

None of what was stated was given in that address.

This thread was started to counter a massive lie.

Let's be clear on that.

I put the OP back on ignore.....and I suggest you all do the same. He's a waste of time, oxygen, and bandwidth.

Regardless of how you feel about the LDS church, you might want to ensure it is based on what is said and not what someone said.....was said.

He knows that he misinterpreted deliberately what I wrote.

HikerGuy83 is not quality LDS.

2. The LDS church enshrines the U.S. Constitution. - Truth
3. Benson did give a talk called "The Proper Role of Government". I have provided a link. - Truth
4. Dallin H. Oaks did serve on the Utah Supreme Court. - Easily verified - Truth
5. Oaks was twice considered for the SCOTUS. - Check Wikipedia with linke sources - Truth

What was fake?

Couldn't agree more. Never said it was.
My mistake.

And you have a very very very short memory (might want get that checked). We've gone round and round over this.

You said in the previous thread:

The LDS Church is NOT Christian.

I didn't make it clear I was quoting you.....my apologies
