NATO sending in troops as a tripwire force on a joint military exercise.
  • NATO members are deploying small numbers of troops to Greenland for a joint military exercise, after a tense meeting with the White House about the island’s future.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron referred to the exercise as “Operation Arctic Endurance.”
  • Talks between U.S., Danish, and Greenlandic officials were “frank but constructive” but did not resolve the “fundamental disagreement” of Greenland’s future, the Danish foreign minister said.

Except for the fact Denmark and Greenland do NOT want the U.S. to take over, the people of Greenland are pretty clear on that
Negotiations are under way, and both Greenlanders and Danes will benefit from the US taking over Greenland, so it is not clear yet what either the Danes or the Greenlanders want.

Suppose the US were to offer the Greenlanders $1,000,000 a piece, how do you suppose the majority would vote?

They will line up to sign and get their check

China has zero in Greenland, and thank you playing spin the Conspiracy Pin Wheel.
China has no influence at this time in Greenland, and American control of Greenland will insure that doesn't change, but both the US and China are competing for reserves of rare earth minerals all around the world, and Greenland has substantial reserves. It is a matter of national security that the US and not China gets control of Greenland's rare earth mineral reserves.

The US has been trying to buy Greenland since 1867 because it recognized the key role Greenland could play in the defense of North America, and one of the first things FDR did when the US entered WWII was to occupy Greenland, and when the war was over, the US refused to remove its troops until both countries joined NATO and Denmark agreed to a limited military presence in Greenland.
