End Of The Line For The Pittsburgh Steelers?

I think he was frankly embarrassed and disgusted by how Pittsburgh played. There was one point in the game where apparently one of the receivers had been running the wrong routes even, causing him to miss balls.

Rodgers is a perfectionist who does not like to associate with mediocrity and the entire Steeler organization really dropped the ball. In a playoff, you really need to be able to elevate yourself to a high level of playing--- Pittsburgh showed none of that, there was not even a single spark I saw in the entire game by them. Nothing that they can do they are particularly good at.

Player-wise, coaching-wise, the Steeler organization is really quite a small-potatoes outfit in a tiny city. Probably why the NFL does not take them very seriously and the team spent much of the year actually setting records for how badly a team can play.

One stat I particularly like: Pittsburgh was tied for the record of the most losses to other teams who were 8 games OR MORE below .500.
Tomlin seems to get a lot of credit for all of his winning seasons. The problem is, the NFL is all about the playoffs and Tomlin since 2010 the Steelers have been awful in the playoffs. The organization seems to be fine with that, so next season you lose your QB, your best receiver is a headcase, no top tier running back and your HC hasn't won a playoff game since the Obama administration.

Getting two games vs. CiN or CLEVE, one win at home vs. BALT every year starts him out at 5 wins. Easier division perhaps.

Previous three playoff games PITT trailed by 21 or over all three "early". Completely hopelessly out of all games. Lost by 24 last night. With 5 turnovers collected in the red zone? I forget. Seemed like a lot. It was ugly.

These old time coaches think they can "hang around" in a one point game. Kill clock. Win it late. Newer coaches go score. Like SF or some others at least try to score.

Mike Tomlin just quit as coach.
So it's a new leaf in Pittsburgh.

Tomlin is a great defensive coach. He won with guys like Mason Rudolph and Kenny Picket. He’s an elite defensive coach.

I dont think Tomlin has ever been the play caller on defense. He's a culture guy.

Bottom line.

19 seasons

Only 4 with a PO win and he inherited a HOF QB in his prime. He took over the Steelers when Big Ben was 25.

He was a defensive coordinator for the Vikings before he was hired by the Steelers. Although he played wide receiver in college.

Yes for 1 season. The Vikings were 32nd against the pass that year. Bottom quarter total yards and middling scoring.

Literally. The only accomplishment the Steeler organization can be commended for was for actually finding and showing up for the game in their own stadium.
The defense played well for 3 quarters. The offense gave up as many TDs as the defense….

The only thing Tomlin has won was to barely keep his nose above .500.

That is because Tomlin inherited Bill Cowher's team, it got him to a Super Bowl, but as that team has faded and the team became all 100% his making, the Steelers have fallen flatter than a ruler, and along the way, they've blamed everyone, this coach, that coach, the QB, the receivers, the backs, the defense, replaced them all 6 times over yet no matter who they plug in there, they still get Tomlin football because Mike Tomlin is the only common denominator left to all those seasons.

The organization seems to be fine with that,
Of course, just as the City's Pirates are. As long as fans still rolls in filling up stadiums buying popcorn and beer and they are making money, why should they care? When you keep patronizing a bad product just because "you are not a fair-weather fan," you are telling the organization they are acceptable. I can see sticking with the Steelers through a few bad games or seasons, but most people today are not old enough now to have ever seen the Steelers actually play great and win.

I've been calling for Tomlin's replacement for a DECADE, and was begging Roethlisberger to be replaced about 5 years earlier than he retired, not that I ever thought Ben was even a particularly good QB. Instead, the Steelers held onto both like grim death, and they passed by a whole number of good QBs who went to other teams. Tomlin hires flunkies as coaches, one had no experience in the NFL! Not a single coach of Tomlins has ever gone on to run another team.

My nephew just texted me saying no more Tomlin.

Thank God. The king is dead. **** Mike Tomlin, who was nothing more than a DEI hire by a DEI organization. I just pray to God they find a real man, a good coach, a bare-knuckles, fire-breathing, ball-busting chariot-driver to replace him. Instead, I fear the Steelers owners will hire some pink-haired transgender goofball whose priority will be equity and diversity.

Tomlin is a great defensive coach.
If so, then why did so many teams make mincemeat of the Steelers D line who was the highest paid in the NFL?

He won with guys like Mason Rudolph and Kenny Picket. He’s an elite defensive coach.
There wasn't much winning with Kenny Pickett. Pickett might already be out of an NFL job. I can't believe they jumped on the kid in their 1st round just because his Pitt team operated in the same office building as the Steelers.

And Mason, Tomlin has bust his ass since Ben retired to do everything possible, hire anyone but play Mason. Mason already had many years in the Steeler Org when Ben retired, I can hardly believe this season could have gone any worse with Mason as QB this year! I mean, I enjoyed having Rodgers as QB, he has his arm, his accuracy, his knowledge, but the man is old enough to be father to some of the other players.

They've never really given Mason a real chance like they did with Ben, they stuck with Ben through thick and thin, but Mason they only stuck him in there in a crisis in the middle of a game usually; he started very few games. As soon as there was a bit of a rough patch, Tomlin always yanked him out rarther than give him time to get his sea legs. Mason actually QBed their last playoff game before this one on the past MNF.

Instead of putting Mason in there when Ben was hurt or retired, instead:
  1. They installed Devlin Hodges off the practice squad
  2. Kenny Pickett, a lout from the U of Pitt.
  3. Mitch Trubisky, a has been traded from another team as a perennial backup.
  4. Justin Fields
  5. Russ Wilson on his way to retirement
  6. Aaron Rodgers on his way to retirement.

The defense played well for 3 quarters. The offense gave up as many TDs as the defense….

I actually taped the game figuring it would probably be Pittsburgh's last game this year. I actually recorded it as 20 separate recordings to eliminate commercials (the subject of another thread I will do), and I rewatched the game again late last night.

The Steelers were actually very much in the game through the first 1.5 quarters, then they started falling apart getting tired, but they were still actually in the game until the 4th quarter. Houston gave them every opportunity to win but Pittsburgh refused to capitalize. Even when the game was still 17-6 late in the 4th, they STILL might have won the game had their offense played well.

Instead, Aaron Rogers himself gave Texas half their points in the final minutes of the game to crush them:
  1. First, his pocket collapsed and he was sacked, lost the ball, and a Texan picked it up, ran right through the Steelers all the way back into the EZ for an easy TD. 7 more points.
  2. Then just minutes later, Rodgers threw an easy pick-6 when he threw into triple coverage right to a defender (neither Pittsburger WR Austin nor TE Freirmuth had any chance of catching it) who then ran the ball back 50 yards, unstopped even by Rodgers himself, for the final score bringing it all the way up to 30 points. Another 6 points.
It should have ended 31-06, but the kicker missed the uprights for the extra point. Pittsburgh laid down and shit an egg. Steelers have ZERO respect in the NFL. I mean, at least Cincinnati has a great QB and even the Browns bad as they are, have a very good defense. The only reason Pittsburgh even got into a playoff game was because their entire division is weak. Baltimore had their starting QB out with a back injury and other injured players most of the season. I bet it really galls Baltimore that they lost to a team as bad as Pittsburgh was last night just because of a bad FG kick of their own.

In a division of good teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers wouldn't even make good water carriers. And that includes TJ Watt, a guy who had maybe 2-3 great years but is now just highly overpaid dead wood.

I had a feeling he might step down, wow only 53? rooney need to call up big ben, respected, knows offense, he can play catch with the players
8 games away or so, 4 months, I am sure he can leave his wife and kids once a week here and there

if they are dead set on this rooney rule which was dumb and now many black head coaches and OC, DC
give hines ward a call

keep it in the family, don't need outsiders

I'm actually surprised.

Screw Big Ben. He sucked as a QB, and he's certainly not coach material.

That is exactly why Pittsburgh cannot win, because they run the Steelers like a family home for buddies instead of a business. Like how they hired Kenny Pickett in the 1st round like the guy was gold, just because his Pitt football team's office was across the hallway from the Steeler office.

Pittsburgh will go nowhere so long as the Roonies run it as a DEI organization rather than a business.
