End Of The Line For The Pittsburgh Steelers?

People who never did anything but sit on the bench still got a ring just for being on the team.

they were not the QB for like 20 years, they did not participate
Hines was a pretty great receiver. Actually better I think than Metcalf now. He not only caught stuff but he ran you over to get it.

yes he was very good
Stats can be deceptive. I don't hold numbers as important as results. When Ben was in, they had the three bees: Ben, Brown, and Bell, yet they never went anywhere with it.

not really if you are good the stats show, if you suck they do not
Art Rooney II is the worst. The father a racketeer who ran booze and gambling (Steeler money is mob money), son Dan was kind of OK, but Art II is just a kid born into money with a silver spoon in his mouth.

likely do did many early teams like the giants
Maybe John Harbaugh will come to Pittsburgh?

who else is out there who has experience but not too old school to learn and adapt?

ben as coach could show rudolph the red nosed QB some tips and trick :)

The cameras were all on Rodgers at the end of the game, as he is expected to retire.

While all the attention was on him, Tomlin was quietly saying goodbye as well.

Kinda sad.

Do the Steelers go up or down from here?
I can't see Rodgers coming in and playing for a new HC for one year. No way.

long good career but every QB knows when it's quitting time, even brady finally had the ball taken away
manning, elway, montana, brees.......the list goes on

can't forget bradshaw, only 4 rings........the bum :D

Tomlin been screwing around and wasting time with has-been qb's like Rogers, Fields, Wilson when he should have drafted the next big ben. He could have got Tyler Schough last year who I think is gonna be a stud in this league for a while.

Pittsburgh will hire so one in their early 40s. Hopefully an offensive mind. Harbaugh is too old. The are a rebuild and he doesn’t have the years for that

not sure what pool they are going to get this from, pirate a young coach from the top college team, dangle the carrot?
guess we will find out but there is an entire year to go, sure they won't rush it but vet very close

only 3 coaches in 50 something years, they want to get it right

I think the owners of the Steelers are holding a meeting/announcement today, I'm waiting to hear what they say.

The Steelers have been rebuilding essentially since the 2021 season when Ben retired. Technically, they've been rebuilding since as far back as 2017. A lot of people were hoping this year would finally be a first step moving forward by at least winning a playoff game and playing in a second, I know I'm not too happy about going back to rebuilding yet some more, now starting completely over with a new HC, new QB, maybe other new coaches, plus needing to replace a lot of aging, over-the-hill defensive players.

Had the Steelers fired Big Ben and Tomlin a decade ago when I thought it was time, they might have a mensch of a team today instead of shambles. I place all the blame on the hapless Steeler owners.

I've heard a couple of names bantered, but they're people I'm not familiar with.

Hi Uncle Bob. You've ferreted me out. :eusa_whistle:

Seriously, great minds think alike.

BTW, if anyone is interested, here is my latest updated chart on the playoffs with all relevant data. I'll be updating it as the games march on. This has been one of the better playoffs in a long time, most of the games have been battles right down to the last second. This weeks divisional round should be fantastic.

? No they havent. You dont trade draft capital for older expensive players when you're in a rebuild. The Steelers traded their #1 pick in 2020 to the Dolphins for Fitzpatrick.

Burrow, Herbert, Love, Hurts were all drafted in 2020. Love and Hurts after the Steelers would have picked if they didnt move up.

They've traded for Queen, Metcalf, Ramsey etc etc. That's not rebuilding.

TJ, Ramsey, Metcalf and anyone over the age of 28 who has any trade value should be gone. They should have traded TJ 2 years ago when they could have gotten 2 firsts for him. They will be lucky to get 1 now. Hire a young offensive mind and rebuild. It's probably a 2 year project, before you are back in contention.

The only thing Tomlin has won was to barely keep his nose above .500.

That is because Tomlin inherited Bill Cowher's team, it got him to a Super Bowl, but as that team has faded and the team became all 100% his making, the Steelers have fallen flatter than a ruler, and along the way, they've blamed everyone, this coach, that coach, the QB, the receivers, the backs, the defense, replaced them all 6 times over yet no matter who they plug in there, they still get Tomlin football because Mike Tomlin is the only common denominator left to all those seasons.

Of course, just as the City's Pirates are. As long as fans still rolls in filling up stadiums buying popcorn and beer and they are making money, why should they care? When you keep patronizing a bad product just because "you are not a fair-weather fan," you are telling the organization they are acceptable. I can see sticking with the Steelers through a few bad games or seasons, but most people today are not old enough now to have ever seen the Steelers actually play great and win.

I've been calling for Tomlin's replacement for a DECADE, and was begging Roethlisberger to be replaced about 5 years earlier than he retired, not that I ever thought Ben was even a particularly good QB. Instead, the Steelers held onto both like grim death, and they passed by a whole number of good QBs who went to other teams. Tomlin hires flunkies as coaches, one had no experience in the NFL! Not a single coach of Tomlins has ever gone on to run another team.
Congrats toobfreak! So with Tomlin gone I have to ask, would you be happy with John Harbaugh as Steelers HC? Who would you like to see get the job?

I have no idea. It certainly won't be Harbaugh. I would prefer a great, smart, young guy who was a brilliant offensive strategist.

15th post

well, to be sure, a defensive team focused on pounding the ball is getting pretty old school these days considering that most teams are heading for the air. No matter how good you are at running it (and all of the security advantages), it takes longer to score a TD that way than if you can throw for 30 yards at a time.

If a team can rack up points that way, they're bound to roll right over a running team.

As to Rogers, yep, that thought flashed in my mind too that not only might he make a good replacement for Tomlin if he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh and do it, but that this might all have been in the conversation a year ago in Aaron's agreement to come there.

I mean, it would be a pretty impressive move for Aaron Rodgers to retire a HOF QB only to then move into being the head coach of one of the oldest and storied NFL franchises.

You could be onto something.....I mean I am sure he would rather go out well than one of his worst playoff games ever
42 is tough for a QB even with an accurate arm and experience, but getting sacked 4+ times is going to wear on you

he's an outsider, could bring fresh eyes and a different mentality certainly, I would not be against it actually, could do 20 year and then retire at that age

have to admit with the beard and all he looks like a take no shit a HC should look like, a man's man

ha, just found this........pretty freaking funny

choosing a HC in pittsburgh is like the pope

I think I heard a stat that game was the lowest scoring playoff game Rodgers had ever QBed in.

The last sack, Rodgers laid there, lost the ball and Houston ran it in for a TD. It was after that Rodgers threw that bad ball into triple coverage that was picked and ran back for another 6. And Aaron did not look like he really wanted to hit the defender trying to stop him from scoring.

I have to believe that if Tomlin as a lowly defensive player (I never heard of the guy before until the Steelers hired him) can lead the team as a good coach for 19 years that Rodgers could do an even better job. Rodgers has to have a better offensive understanding and general knowledge of the game, and he has apparently shown a lot of leadership on the team, and the players like, respect, trust and follow him.

What more could Pittsburgh hope for or want in a coach?

If the Rooneys did not realize that or consider that in hiring Rodgers for the team, at both his and Tomlin's points of their careers, they are stupid. Pittsburgh is sitting on gold.
