McCarthy is from Pittsburgh, but he's never coached in the organization and has zero ties to the Steelers other than being born in the area.Lessee:
- Pittsburgh native so "one of the boys", a safe bet kind of like how they though Pitt QB Kenny Pickett would be.
Chuck Noll born in Cleveland hardly "one of the boys"
Mike Tomlin born in Hampton Virginia.
Dan Marino QB'd at Pitt, Shady McCoy was a RB at Pitt Revis was from Alliquippa
Where are you getting that the Steelers only hire from within or people associated with Pittsburgh or the Steelers?
Are any of the great Steelers from the Pittsburgh area?
Bradshaw
Bettis
Big Ben
Greene
Ham
Blier
Harris
Lambert
Mike might be explained as a safe intermediary coach to carry the team through a few years of rebuild while they continue to search for a solution to their QB problem, hoping maybe that will buy them a few years to keep searching for a younger up and coming coach to carry the team in the long term.
- Ten years OLDER than Mike Tomlin, so not likely a high energy move.
The McCarthy hire is terrible. It's the Rooney's having no idea where this team is from a competitive standpoint.
