End Of The Line For The Pittsburgh Steelers?

I'm actually surprised.

Screw Big Ben. He sucked as a QB, and he's certainly not coach material.

That is exactly why Pittsburgh cannot win, because they run the Steelers like a family home for buddies instead of a business. Like how they hired Kenny Pickett in the 1st round like the guy was gold, just because his Pitt football team's office was across the hallway from the Steeler office.

Pittsburgh will go nowhere so long as the Roonies run it as a DEI organization rather than a business.
ben is one of the better QB's ever......

hiring former players is not DEI, that's just what the rooney rule did though

they need somebody fresh, football is much the same yet it's changed

need a new thinker on how to win

ben is one of the better QB's ever......
You're kidding right? The guy sucked. I remember Super Bowl XL in Seattle--- Pittsburgh won that game DESPITE Ben. His bad playing almost cost us the game. I always hearken back to the 2006 season: Ben drove his high speed motorcycle into a car's windshield almost killing himself because he tried to beat some old lady at an intersection.

He missed four games, Charlie Batch filled in. Batch won 3 of the 4 games. Despite that, they brought Ben back ASAP and he proceeded to lose the next several games.

Ben was a mediocre QB at best who just occasionally played well enough for a few plays to keep his city believing he was good while forgetting the other 70-80% bad playing. I remember watching Ben routinely and repeatedly always throw 5 yards short of over the receiver's head or get picked off. Ben hardly ever connected with his receiver.

Ben's only two good years is 2004 when he replaced Tommy Maddox and went 15-1 because no one knew him (only to be crushed by Tom Brady in the Playoffs), and the other good year was the year the Steelers went to the SuperBowl against the Arizona Cardinals and won.

And Pittsburghers would brag about his ability to run out of the pocket extending plays! He did that because he could never find his receivers and had to use his body to extend the play long enough otherwise he would have never completed a pass.

The Rooneys are DEI. The Steelers are DEI, Pittsburgh is DEI. That is why and how old Dan Roonie became "Ambassador to Ireland" for Barry Obama.

Ben is top 20 all time. He’s a HOF lock, probably should be a 1st ballot guy.

Good! Pittsburgh will be a much more pleasant place without so many rabid fanatics stupifying themselves over it. I got a taste of that during the pandemic waiting for something like 2 years they weren't able to have their football freakouts any more

I never knew this but found this out just a few years ago--- did you know the city of Pittsburgh is not only one of the cloudiest cities in the country, but also has one of the highest crime rates?

well he has a 2 rings and some his of his bombs to hines ward are just awesome

5th in yards and completions, 8th in TD's and was clutch late in games to get the win

93.5 career QB rating

yes sadly even the latest rooney is DEI

Jim ex-ravens is open, now just imagine that one........

18 years of experience and a better mindset than tomlin has

well he has a 2 rings
People who never did anything but sit on the bench still got a ring just for being on the team.

Hines was a pretty great receiver. Actually better I think than Metcalf now. He not only caught stuff but he ran you over to get it.

Stats can be deceptive. I don't hold numbers as important as results. When Ben was in, they had the three bees: Ben, Brown, and Bell, yet they never went anywhere with it.

yes sadly even the latest rooney is DEI
Art Rooney II is the worst. The father a racketeer who ran booze and gambling (Steeler money is mob money), son Dan was kind of OK, but Art II is just a kid born into money with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Maybe John Harbaugh will come to Pittsburgh?

That would be a totally stupid move.

Kind of like how Cincinatti sent whatshisface to the Browns as QB. Funny, but not impossible. Rooney will have to find SOMEONE to replace Tomlin. Harbaugh needs a job, Pittsburgh needs a coach. Who is out there better than Harbaugh?

Steeler's have been in discussions prior to this happening, pretty sure they weren't blindsided by Tomlin stepping down.. I'm sure someone is in the pipeline. They usually hire someone the next day.
Who says Harbaugh is necessarily the man? The Steeler's hire long term. Harbaugh is 63.

I follow the Steelers as "my team" and AFAIK, there was no word on Tomlin resigning if he lost as of just yesterday, though there was informal speculation wondering of the possibility if he lost.

In hindsight now, I watched the game on Monday twice and I noted Tomlin looking around the stadium kind of like it was some sort of last look or that having played and lost so bad, that he might be fired or want to leave after this.

No one. I was just kidding. After all, he just became available. :SMILEW~130:
Maybe Rooney will hire him as an "interim coach."

You notice Tomlin walking off with Heyward and Rodgers flanking him, then blowing a kiss to the camera? I also noticed him with the last look around thing.

There was no word but I know Tomlin wouldn't just up and leave without letting the Rooney's know. I heard the Steelers being in communications as in looking, on the chance Tomlin would leave earlier this year. We'll see.

I heard that as Tomlin and Rodgers left to go down into the tunnel, fans were screaming at him or both to retire. I feel sorry for Cam Heyward, I think had they won that game, it would have meant several extra million for him.

I'm sure Tomlin and Rooney have long been in talks about all of their futures based on whether the Steelers pulled out of the dumpster or not. From video I've seen, Pittsburgh fans are fed up with losing. Tomlin has now set a record for the longest playoff stretch with the most losses.

They've been screaming since the Canada days, even before. They wasted time letting BR keep playing and should have been looking fwd QB wise. I've seen all kinds of idiotic moves over the years from coaching to and through time management.

Well, the last I figured it, I think Ben ended the season in 2017 saying maybe it was time for him to retire. They should have already had a viable replacement in the wings. But they didn't. While other teams were drafting great QBs, they left Ben come back. play poorly, then by end of 2018, I think his arm was suffering.

He came back in 2019 knowing something wasn't right and in the first game, immediately reported his arm hurting so that the Steelers would pay for it.

Then a year later when he came back in 2020, his playing still stunk but people rationalized it as his being off for a year and getting that surgery and being rusty! But why come back unless you're ready to play?

Ben then hobbled through 2020 and 2021 playing poorly to buy the Rooneys time to replace him. In 2022, that genius find was Kenny Pickett. They've been in the weeds ever since.

Just think, had Tommy Maddox not gotten hurt in 2004 and played better, Ben might never have even played.

The cameras were all on Rodgers at the end of the game, as he is expected to retire.

While all the attention was on him, Tomlin was quietly saying goodbye as well.

Kinda sad.

Do the Steelers go up or down from here?
