Do The People Have The Moral Authority To Outlaw Atheism?
~~ or Christianity?
~~ or Secular Humanism?
~~ or Chewing Gum?

JAG Writes:
On Atheism there is no God.
So God and gods have no part in this OP's question.

Questions:
Are The People the Highest and the Final ,Authority?
If The People are not The Highest and The Final Authority, then Who or What is The Highest Authority?
Is there a Truth Reality out there that is above The People and has more authority than
The People?
If you say Yes to that question, then Who knows what or where that Truth Reality is?
Who knows what it is? {if it exists}
Who knows where it is located? {if it exists}
Who has the authority to interpret what that Truth Reality says? {if it exists}
What are their names?
Are you "one of them."?
___________

Let us say that 98% of The People Of Earth have outlawed Murder
and said "Thou Shall Not Murder"
Question: Do you have a moral obligation to obey The People
when they collectively issue a proclamation that murder is outlawed?

___________

Do The People have a Moral Right to outlaw chewing gum?
If you are a gum chewer, and 98% of The People of Earth voted to outlaw
chewing gum, would you be morally obligated to stop chewing gum?
___________

Let us also say that 98% of The People Of Earth issued a Moral Proclamation
that said:
"Henceforth The Teaching Of Secular Humanism Is Outlawed Upon Penalty Of Death"
Would you then be morally obligated to cease teaching the principles of Secular Humanism?
__________

Here is another version of the same thing leaving off the penalty.
Let us say that 98% of The People Of Earth issued a Moral Proclamation
that said:
"Henceforth The Teaching Of Secular Humanism Is Outlawed."
Would you be morally obligated to stop teaching the principles of Secular Humanism?

___________

Do 98% of The People of the Earth have the authority to precisely define what
is, or is not, moral and immoral?
If you say No, then what Authority is there, that has the Power or the Authority
to void the will of 98% of The People of the Earth?

Is there a Truth Reality out there that has the Authority and the Power to void
the will of 98% of The People of the earth?
If yes, who has the Power and the Authority to interpret what that Truth Reality says?
Where are they located?
What are their names?

_______

Some Miscellaneous Thoughts Relating To This Question:

On Atheism there is no God.
The People are the Highest Authority.
The People are The Highest Supreme Being.
The People can speak through the political vehicle of Democracy?
Suppose The People want to Democratically outlaw your beliefs?
To what Authority would you appeal that would be higher than The People?
You could not appeal to God.
On Atheism there is no God.
It would be You vs.The People --and in a Democracy The People make the laws
and are The Supreme Being.
Do 98% The People of Earth have a Moral Right to outlaw the public expression
of your beliefs?
Do 98% of The People of the Earth have a Moral Right to outlaw Secularism Humanism?
Do 98% of The People of the Earth have a Moral Right to outlaw Christianity?
Is there a Truth Reality out there that has the Moral Authority to prevent
98% of The People collectively outlawing the public expression of
Atheism, or Secular Humanism or Christianity?

JAG

Q. Is there a Truth Reality out there that has the Moral Authority to prevent
98% of The People collectively outlawing the public expression of
Atheism, or Secular Humanism or Christianity?

A. Only in a form of governance in an anti democratic and authoritarian dystopia.

Organized religion (for the record I was raised and confirmed a Catholic, my dog tags had RCNP inscribed) has become more and more political.

Christianity is not singular, their is a vast difference between Billy Graham Jr. / Pat Robertson and the local Parish Priests and Rabbis [a shot out Pope Francis for his humanity]

Atheism has been conceived to be the foundation of Secular Humanism; in my reality pragmatists are agnostic and support the golden rule which I believe is the foundation and framework of Secular Humanism.

Thank you for the first non Idiot-gram to be posted here in a long time; being substantive, thoughtful and most of all Thought Provoking.

98% of the people?

there exists no such block..

there is NO group of like-minded people that equals 98% of the population.....

no ideology
no religion
no race
no color
no creed

even in the USA (where deranged conservatives believe "MOST Americans are christians!") you find that, in reality, MOST Americans are NOT evangelical christians....

in fact, the people (conservative christians) who claim that America is a "christian nation" because "MOST Americans are christians" will dispute their own point by also claiming that everyone who isn't a right wing evangelical lunatic is NOT a "real christian" and is NOT "a real American"

what I would like to know is how you justify your belief in "free speech" while wanting to ban, banish and outlaw any speech that irritates you?

"what I would like to know is how you justify your belief in "free speech"

LOL
You're a funny guy.
You have no remote idea what you are talking about.
I mean absolute zero , , , , 00000000000
The OP does not want to "ban" anything.
The OP does not want to "outlaw" anything , , , NOT , , ever, , , as in NEVER NEVER NEVER.
_________

I have an idea.
This idea will save you some time too.
Don't even glance at OP's.
Much less spend time reading them.
Instead rely on Osmosis to "get the meaning" of OP's.
What you do is just click on the OP
But do NOT let your eyes actually see the writing in the OP.
Just close your eyes and allow "osmosis" to "tell you" what the OP is all about.
Then pop into the thread and proceed to unburden your soul.
Be sure to post insulting one-liners.
_________

If the OP is on say the subject of America's Economy.
Use Osmosis and then , , ,
You can pop-into the thread and post something like this:
I love trees and I love to see Spot run. I love to see Spot chase the ball.

Best.

The church deacons and rectors are out of their minds. If God exists, He certainly does not exist because they legislated Him into existence by state or national law.

"Moral authority"? What a divinely undefinable term.
And make a law against not believing in something unproveable?
This is "Religion and ethics", not "humor".

Do you even bother to actually read OP's before you comment?
What'd you do? Just glance at the title of the OP?
Then pop-into the thread and "hold forth"?
Or did you just click on the OP and them reach out and "touch
the screen of your monitor" and enjoy a "religious moment"?
And then pop into the thread and "hold forth"?
The OP does NOT , , NOT , , seek to "make a law" against
ANYTHING , , , NOT EVER , , as in NEVER , ,NEVER, , , NEVER.

Moreover the OP most certainly does NOT
want to "make a law against not believing in something."
That is the VERY LAST thing I would want to see.
The OP does not call for that.
The OP does not want to see that done , ,NOT , , , ever.

"not sure how you outlaw thought,,,"

trumpers know how to outlaw thought.......kill the thinker and burn the books

Show where Trump supporters have done anything like that, Nazi?

Didn't you Nazis just burn dozens of books? Huckleberry Finn, To Kill a Mocking Bird?

{Burbank Unified School District in California recently made headlines with its decision to ban the classic novels “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Of Mice and Men,” “The Cay, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry,” and “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” District leaders apparently responded to several complaints from parents who took issue with the purported racism of the books as well as incidents of white students taunting their nonwhite peers with racist language from their assigned reading.}

As always, what you Nazis accuse your enemy of is what you are doing.

Don't you Nazis believe that you have "democracy" so your atrocities are morally justified? Don't fascists like you think that most people follow the "woke" religion you are a slave to? Isn't it you Nazis who claim anyone doubting the integrity of the election are "destroying our democracy" by not engaging in the group think you demand?

what I would like to know is how you justify your belief in "free speech" while wanting to ban, banish and outlaw any speech that irritates you?

Where did JAG advocate banning speech? That's what you Nazi democrats do.

{You’d think that liberals — at the ACLU, of all places — would defend an author’s right to make her case, whether it agreed with that case or not. But not Chase Strangio, who serves as the ACLU’s deputy director for transgender justice. “Abigail Shrier’s book is a dangerous polemic with a goal of making people not trans,” he tweeted. “I think of all the times & ways I was told my transness wasn’t real & the daily toll it takes. We have to fight these ideas which are leading to the criminalization of trans life again.”

Then, just to make sure we understand what Mr. Strangio means when he says “we have to fight these ideas,” he goes on to say: “Stopping the circulation of this book and these ideas is 100% a hill I will die on.”

“You read that right,” Ms. Shrier wrote in her op-ed. “Some in today’s ACLU favor book banning.”

She goes on to tell us about a woman named Grace Lavery, a professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley, who tweeted: “I DO encourage followers to steal Abigail Shrier’s book and burn it on a pyre.”}

Once again, you accuse your enemy of your crimes.

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal (thus, the atheist is equal to those of all faiths....as far as humanity goes, as our founders declared no one has the right to deny any man of their chosen faith....even if its a belief in 'nothing' but humanity).

When something is self evident there is no debate as the subject defines itself. What? Our founders did not believe that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL so that phrase is made into a lie by the subject of slavery...different classes of people in society etc.? Wrong, as the rest of this founding principle states, "..........that they are endowed by their creator with certain 'unalienable' rights (meaning something that is alienated as determined in court, to transfer that right to the state).....but the right to life and liberty is unalienable (non transferable) with the exception of crimes against humanity...........as in denying one's right to freely worship or not worship as they please.

Slavery? All men are created equal? Does that make this founding principle a lie? Of course not.....it was by a majority ratification process that slavery was made legal, we do live in a republic the majority of which wanted slavery to be legal at that time.....it is man that evolved to accept this truth (all men are created equal) or it was never truth in the beginning. Truth does not evolve, societies do. Our founders were endowed by the creator with a spirit of "genius loci" that made sure that our legal system could evolve with society and they placed rules and regulations as to how that evolution would become law that sets the standard for all law in the U.S., the US Constitution. Through a majority ratification process, not the courtroom, its called an amendment and society must approve via a supermajority of 75%.

A republic cannot stand if there is a continual 50+1 enactment of major law as found in the constitution..........if there is no supermajority.....you have half the people against the other half of the people and you end up just as described in the federalist papers (no.10) when explaining Article 4 Section 4 clause one of the constitution.............a republican form of government is guaranteed at all levels. If not.......you get chaos, revolution, mob rule as always the example found in history in a simple democracy.

If you don't believe that........just look at the last 2 years of the Trump administration when LEFT WING MOBS attempted to burn this nation to the ground because they lost a general election. Then the election was stolen.........do you see right wing mobs burning, looting rioting, destroying historical statues....etc.., You get one little protest in Jan., where half of the so called trumpsters were PAID hell raisers pretending to be trump supporters (paid by George Soros and company).......and the left is still attempting to prosecute people.....but never a mention of the previous 2 years of rioting, murdering, burning, destruction of property, taking over entire sections of cities....etc., Never happened.

It makes me want to vomit whenever I hear a dumb downed politician declare........"we live in a democracy". And this is the generation that is making major decisions that rule our lives? :dunno:

Soon as you religious whack-jobs can police your own ranks you might have a tiny bit "moral authority". Until then keep away from my kids.

They haven't read the Bible then. God doesn't exist by powers of law or moral authority, but he comes into being in the hearts of true believers.

Belief in God comes about for many different reasons.

belief in a deity is not required for admission to the Everlasting such as an atheist - is why discussion of the above absurdity would be the disillusion of the perpetrator, not the atheist.

and is the history of the desert religions and their downfall.

The only true morality is inherent in the Aryan religion, vedic, and this is almost atheism. There the gods are heavenly bodies, natural forces and heroes. Morality there is not in passive humility with evil, but in the struggle with the villain, righteousness for the sake of bright ideals and not for reward, this reflected the mentality of noble people.

Almost all religions of our era are the product of slave-owning agricultural empires and served the interests of the priests who were in power in them. There, almost the same pattern is used everywhere. There is a speculative model of the world, which is supposedly known to the priests from higher powers, there is a certain master of this world who, through the priesthood, commanded the slaves to obey and observe laws and rituals, there is a reward and punishment for this obedience, everywhere the need to work and not look for any other ideas except those who are voiced by the priesthood on behalf of God.
It starts from about Macedonian time and it is called axis time, in contrast to the past mythical-heroic era
