Disney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feud

2,000 Californians working for a filthy ass woke company won't be moving to Florida.

That is a good thing and a big win for the state.

That would mean good, high paying jobs. It means they were not talking about a bunch of service jobs. Why is it so hard to just admit that you are willing to take a hit on economic policies for your social ones?

It is like the right is allergic to just admitting the obvious.
Disney has been slashing jobs for awhile now.

WD is also shutting down the SW Star Cruiser. Disney is hurting.
That's how it works. Old attractions leave, new ones replace them.

This might have had something to do with it ...

"It also has a high price tag with trips starting at $4,809 for two guests for a standard cabin,"

People will spend money at Disney, but there are limits.

And now its Disney's turn. 2,000 jobs by by.

KEY POINTS
  • Disney will no longer be moving forward with the construction of its Lake Nona, Florida, employee campus.
  • The company will also no longer be requiring California-based employees to relocate.
  • The announcement comes amid a bitter feud between the company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis centered in part around the company's special district and development plans.

Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state's governor.
Citing "changing business conditions" and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney's parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.
Further proof that Republicans are incapable of sound, responsible governance – the right’s war on gay and transgender Americans is one of countless examples.

"D'Amaro reiterated in his memo that the company still plans to invest $17 billion in Florida over the next 10 years, including the addition of around 13,000 jobs. The company currently employs more than 75,000 people in the state."

Doesn't sound like much of a retaliation.

Sounds like we have the same concern for Disney jobs in FL as you have for Disney jobs in CA. You idiots are hilarious.

There are enough self-important entitled Prog speaking yahoos with their bullhorns spewing crazy agendas that are slowly backfiring on us all. And of course, in the field of equality, they are of equity and are the more equal of the great socialist system we are moving to.

And now its Disney's turn. 2,000 jobs by by.

And a billion dollar office complex. Nice job Ron.

$1.0bn. the rest is a maybe.

Disney is not going anywhere, this is just their feeble attempt to paint DeSantis into a corner. It's nothing but posturing. They will wait until he is gone, and then move forward.

It is just the beginning of the results of desantis temper tantrum war. Let's see:

Construction and agricultural projects are shutting down because desantis is pushing migrants out of the state.

Disney is closing down a high end motel in September

Teachers are leaving the state because desantis is threatening them with legal action if they teach anything he does not approve

Colleges and Universities in the state are afraid they will be the next victim of the desantus morality squad

Yeah, such high paying jobs--average wage for a character performer, food prep or service worker are all under $15/hr. Wasn't it you democrats that said $15/hr was less than a living wage? Sucks when your own shit bite you in the ass, eh?
You are one stupid ignorant shit. Those 2,000 jobs, they weren't character performers, they were mid and upper level management, almost everyone paying more than your sorry ass draws from disability.

Dear Central Florida,

$1 Billion ($1,000,000,000) in construction jobs for a new complex.

2,000 jobs with an average income of $120,000, that's $240 Million ($240,000,000) in baseline economic activity. I say baseline because money circulates. The Disney employees get paid. They spend money in stores, retardants, gas stations, etc. - so the baseline pays for jobs by many more people.

That economic impact in central Florida just went "poof".

You might want to drop a line to the individual responsible:

Office of Governor Ron DeSantis
State of Florida
The Capitol
400 S. Monroe St.
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001

Your welcome.
