Disney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feud

All of this could have been avoided and it would have been business as usual if Disney simply didn't play social agenda politics.

If they just stuck to making movies and shows for kids and adults, just tried to let people have fun and kept their mouths shut on things that have nothing to do with Disney then they would still have their special privileges.

But nope. Disney had to go woke and caused themselves a lot of unnecessary grief.

If those are the strings attached... Thanks but no thanks.

Florida isn't hemorrhaging citizens and jobs... that's New York and California.

People are voting with their feet.
Florida will lose seats after the 2030 census, bank on it. DeSantis is quickly turning it in to a shithole that ranks as the least affordable state in the Union.

And now its Disney's turn. 2,000 jobs by by.

KEY POINTS
  • Disney will no longer be moving forward with the construction of its Lake Nona, Florida, employee campus.
  • The company will also no longer be requiring California-based employees to relocate.
  • The announcement comes amid a bitter feud between the company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis centered in part around the company's special district and development plans.

Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state's governor.
Citing "changing business conditions" and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney's parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.
Guess ya missed the fine print.

"D'Amaro reiterated in his memo that the company still plans to invest $17 billion in Florida over the next 10 years, including the addition of around 13,000 jobs. The company currently employs more than 75,000 people in the state."

Whether they did or did not, had nothing to do with my post.
Florida is a shithole, it is Yankeeland, southern version. The song "Gator Country" by Molly Hatchet is now nothing more than a fleeting reminder of what Florida used to be. The least affordable state in the country, the highest rate of STD's in the country happens to be in "The Villages", which happens to be in a special use tax district just like Disney. Why has that not been revoked?

Let's not forget that the highest point in Florida is just over 300 ft. :heehee:

It is so bad that its population continues to grow.

Wait....

That'd be questionable since Florida's population is growing about 1.5 percent a year

Next time look instead of blabbing
Look honey, I know it has been growing. What I am staying is that the growing is going to come to a grinding halt. Currently, for every two people that move into Florida, one moves out. And lots of the time, the one moving out moved in within the past couple of years. Florida is expensive, and unlike California and New York, which are also expensive, incomes aren't jack shit. I should know.

Check it out. I live in the city at the top of the list.

That would be irrelevant. If a company is bringing 10,000 jobs to your state and governmental actions make 2000 of those jobs moves elsewhere instead you STILL cost your state those 2000 jobs. Particularly since there was noting that was done by the government that attracted the 10k jobs in the first place.

And the right was all over AOC for doing this to Amazon. The real difference here is that DeSantis cannot chase away Disney in its entirety because the park is not something that can be moved. No matter what he does, as long as the park grows so will jobs associated with it. However, the higher paying jobs in middle management and above can be moved and it looks like they will be.

It is fine if that is what you want because the social gains are worth the fiscal losses to you BUT it is telling that the right here seems unwilling to recognize losse3s they create for those 'gains.' The left at least acknowledges the tradeoff, they are willing to pay for social change. It seems like the right just want's to play lets pretend.
