Disney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feud

Whoop-de-doo. They'll be back..and bring more subscribers with them. Just like Bud Light sales will pick up.
Meanwhile, Stillson will end up losing the Republican primary to Donald Trump.

Only a moron governor goes to war with one of his state's biggest employers and generators of tax revenue.
Anaheim has had its squabbles with Disneyland over the years too....many of the people there think the city bends over for them to much.....i know i seen it enough times....

I can at least appreciate that you all no longer even try to hide behind the façade of conservatism, that you can openly come out and say "yep, we support the Govt attacking an entity for exercising their 1st amendment rights".

This is a good step forward for you all

What i appreciate is what you, very disingenuously avoid, is that I am against any privileges, for any entity, public or private, that is handed out by government.

The disbursement of government largess is the heart of corruption and the reason why we cannot aspire to honest governance in this country.

What I also appreciate is any entity that feels so entitled to that privilege that they feel ill used if they choose to turn on those who granted that privilege.

Disney had a choice... take their special benefits and stay out of politics, or to put those benefits at risk by choosing to go up against the government that bestowed them.

Disney choose unwisely.

Actually California's service tax is higher than Florida's and property taxes are both below national average.. figure in Florida has no income tax Florida wins
True. The stupid Libs have never been able to overturn Prop 13. (see 1978). California ,by far the most beautiful State ,is now a shithole. During COVID ,it was like living in the former USSR. Hasn't improved much.

Its still lovely, with beautiful cities. I got to visit Sonoma, Calistoga and went to see a play down at the Orpheum some months ago.

I'd buy property there in a heart beat if housing wasn't so damn expensive.

What pisses me off is seeing San Francisco turn into Lagos. I just refer to it as 'Frisco" now.

All this could have been avoided had Disney, already enjoying the perks of special government privileges, hadn't decided to bite the hand that feeds it.

Privileges come with a price.

If only Disney hadn't engaged in political speech, Ron would have had no reason to use the power of the State to suppress it though a targeted campaign of harassment and retaliation.

So much for 'free speech', eh?

You live in a shithole state. Drive from Augusta, GA across state line to SC and it's evident immediately. The roads turn to shit right at the border. The whole state is decrepit and broken down.
Greenville is a top visitor city, I guess you went through Columbia or Charleston. The liberal shitholes. I hope your boy gives you some tonight, might settle you down a bit! Lol, I live in the country and loving it.

About time somebody cancels WOKE. **** Disney. All they care about now is Fagism. Walt would never have allowed this faggy crap.

No one questions Disney's right to speak their piece.

What is at question is why is Disney demanding privileges, that no other company in the state enjoys, from the very government they choose to oppose.

You have the right to free speech, you have no right to special privileges.

No one questions Disney's right to speak their piece.

When you retaliate for the purpose of suppressing that speech, especially political speech, that's a flagrant violation of the 1st amendment. Which the courts have extended to businesses. With DeSantis even bragging about shutting down Disney's political speech.

The big issue with Disney was they exercised a lot of political influence in this town,” DeSantis said in an interview with Newsmax. “And they tried to fight us on things like parents’ rights and things that are really important to the people of Florida. We beat them on that. We signed a parents’ rights bill and we’ve expanded protections and we’ve done a lot of stuff to go back and fight woke ideology.”

“Since our skirmish last year, Disney has not been involved in any of those issues,” he added. They have not made a peep. That ultimately is the most important that Disney is not allowed to pervert the system to the detriment of Floridians. So that’s a win for the people of Florida.”

With DeSantis literally characterizing Disney's political speech as 'perverting the system'.

That's not free speech.

But it is consistent with ACTUAL conservative values: using the power of the State to supress and punish political speech that conservatives don't like.

For Fags and Trannys. And Pedophiles. Dragos. In the near future , this WOKE shit will explode right in the Democrats commie faces. Just as the Abortion fight exploded in the Repubs face in 2022.

But it is consistent with ACTUAL conservative values

The only Conservative value being demonstrated here is the rejection of the idea that certain companies, well connected politically, are entitled to special privileges.

The larger question is, "Why were they relocating the jobs from California in the first place".

Is California not consistent with Disney's corporate values?

You don't get to decide who gets to have 1st amendment rights and who doesn't. That's not how free speech works.

And using the the power of the State to punish and suppress political speech is anathema to the the entire concept of free speech. In addition to being a flagrant 1st amendment violation.

But its perfectly compatible with conservative values....and what they want to export to the rest of the country.

No thank you.

The workers that were moving were the imagineers and members of the parks and experiences department. They were moving to Florida for big upgrades in Orlando next, presumably on the Disney Starwars, Galaxy's Edge rides. They were scheduled for late 2022 or early 2023.

The move heralded a massive expansion and update of Disney rides and properties in FL to the tune of about $17 billion dollars over the next decade or so.

Or did....before DeSantis' volatility and petty ego cost the State of Florida again.

Others States can already smell the blood in the water.

It is just the beginning of the results of desantis temper tantrum war. Let's see:

Construction and agricultural projects are shutting down because desantis is pushing migrants out of the state.

Disney is closing down a high end motel in September

Teachers are leaving the state because desantis is threatening them with legal action if they teach anything he does not approve

Colleges and Universities in the state are afraid they will be the next victim of the desantus morality squad

Nahhhh, that's good. No one wants californicators screwing up their state.

Yaaay Florida!
