Did Anyone Watch The Oscars Last Night?

We are living through a period remarkably similar to that of the cultural revolution in China several decades back During the Cultural revolution, humorless authoritarians demanded that all art serve a very specific cultural purpose. Here in the states, humorless authoritarians are now demanding all art serve a very specific cultural purpose.

Can anybody guess why? Anybody? Anybody?.......

Ferris?

(1) Very few people have seen any of the films that were under consideration. Not because they were "bad," but because of the Pandemic.

(2) The criteria that thespians use to judge films (etc) are different from those that make the film entertaining, so the awards often go to films that the viewers think "suck."

(3) The Academy has a bizarre and counterintuitive belief in its own great importance in the overall scheme of things. A person who was responsible for costumes in a film is lauded as though s/he had discovered a cure for cancer.

(4) The virtue signaling is insufferable, as is the political messaging.

(5) The fretting over "diversity" and "inclusion" is nauseating to 80% of the potential viewing audience, and "we" are not so stupid as to fail to recognize that POC's who win awards are generally undeserving - just being rewarded out of white guilt.

(6) the program itself no longer even attempts to be entertaining. No comedian-MC, no real humor.

It represents three hours of one's life that one will never get back.

Why would anyone watch?

Wokeness is cultural and civilization suicide. As a favor to humanity the awfulness they have brought.

I didn't watch it. Haven't watched it in years.

But looking at the awards and how who got them was interesting.

The best picture was 'Nomadland'.....a story about a homeless woman dealing with living in America.

One of the best actor awards went to Sir Anthony Hopkins who played a man dealing with Dementia.

Also....it appears that the Chinese have invaded the Academy because best director went to Chloé Zhao.

Best Song went to 'Fight For You' about cops killing blacks.

If you're looking for anything positive.....forget about Hollywood.

I don't watch TEE VEE or follow media. When Mark says that the accolades being heaped onto the winner for Nomadland is a first for Asians? I honestly don't know if that is HIS opinion or the gaslighting of the propagandists.

IN the 2000 awards, 73rd Academy Awards - Wikipedia the only film that had more nominations was Gladiator. Gladiator won five awards, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, won four. I wouldn't know this, but I read, and the book was good, as was the movie.

Now, to make this other movie seem like some sort of first?

This is the first time completely untalented and unworthy people received awards based on their political opinions.

Well, I believe that is open for debate.

I am of the opinion that, "completely untalented and unworthy people received awards," all the time, at least, all through my lifetime. None of the movies I ever like win.
In fact? That is the purpose of Hollywood, to see who can make propaganda that most palatable.

These shows are always about pushing the limits of propaganda.

Now? Even the dumbest among you can see it. The propaganda is so raw and naked, few can mistake it as entertainment any longer.
The most intelligent among us have always known though, so don't kid yourself.

In fact, if you are into studying Occult imagery, you would know, even the very name, "Hollywood," means, Witchcraft, IOW, putting a spell on you!

Yes, apparently they did. Each one listed by the OP was making a definite and powerful statement.

When are you going to make a powerful statement, kid?

You have made over 1700 incredibly dweeby ones, so you have a whole lot of catching up to do.
Is there anything specific on which we disagree? You seem to have been baited by what I've said here about the Oscar winners.

I think it's more likely that most Americans who frequent this board have intelligence levels that aren't worthy of their performances and their message of peace and hope.

Francis McDormant seems to have gotten four Oscars because of her apparent hatred for Christianity.
And what range she has.
Every character is the same. She plays a middle-aged opinionated woman who's witty and blunt who quotes Socrates or some other philosopher.
The only time she went out of character was when she won in FARGO....where she played a soft-spoken but straight-arrow police chief who happens to be prego.

The entire Oscars were built around the black guy, Chadwick something winning. That's why best actor was last. Anthony Hopkins knew this and didn't bother to show up. How the hell did the white guy win?

I guess most of the voters didn't mail-in their ballots without proper signatures and positive control.
They couldn't rig that one.

I forgot about it. OTOH I got a great night's sleep in spite of not watching which most generous to the deep state leftist thespian/ directess won which award. *yawn*. I do wonder how Hollywood dealt with 18 lgbt categories instead of best male/best female actress. :rolleyes-41:

Who is Oscar? Wasn't he a character in the Odd Couple?

He was a fag. No kidding.....
He's Dr Sheldon Cooper in the 70s.

Oscar was the slob, played by Jack Klugman in the TV show. Felix was the effeminate one, played by Tony Randall. I'll tell you a story though:

I was in high school back in 1967 and my step-dad was the stage manager for a dinner theater in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn. The name of the place was the Drury Lane Theater. It was then owned by a burly Italian gumba named "Anthony DeSantis. They had plays starring actors like George Hamilton, Forest Tucker, Bob Crane, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson., etc. They put on the play "The Odd Couple" and Tony Randall played the role of Felix Ungar.

Anyway, I had a job there working props and scenery. When the lights went out between scenes, I would have to move furniture around and stuff. I would also have to have props waiting for the actors, in one of the small rooms outside the corners of the stage.

I got personally meet Tony Randall. He was a decent guy, straight as an arrow, and had a blonde wife who never came out of the star's living quarters they provided.

Forest Tucker (F Troop) was always drunk.

Bob Crane (Hogan's Heroes) was an asshole. It's no wonder someone killed him.

Ozzie and Harriet Nelson were the most wonderful, down to earth, genuine people you'd ever want to meet. They wrote all the crew a check when their play was done, as a tip.

I kept the check stub in my wallet and two years later when I was bumming around California, I stopped at their house in LA. They made me sandwiches, gave me $50, and drove me back to the freeway in their Mercedes or BMW, I don't remember which.

I continued to hitchhike south and ended up in Tijuana, where I spent the money on a switchblade, some tacos, and a whore. The whore wasn't really that good, but it was fun.

True story.
