Dicks and Walmart getting sued HAHA

Since Dick's isn't the only place selling guns, why did he go there? Is this another bake-a-cake suit? Who won that one?

Not the baker
Those fascist republicans forcing those bakers to make the cake

Nope, but the fascist republicans will force someone to sell them a gun. If it is wrong for the baker it is wrong for Dicks.

Everytime the "right" uses the tactics of the left they push the country left even faster than before.

The country never was left. There were small pockets of leftists and the president at the time thinking otherwise.

Knock Knock! Reality's crashing the party!

This is an issue that comes into play when people think "shall not be infringed" actually means "do whatever you can convince enough people to agree with".

PORTLAND, Ore. — An Oregon man filed suits Monday claiming Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart discriminated against the 20-year-old when they refused to sell him a rifle.

Dick’s and Walmart restricted gun sales to adults 21 and older in the wake of the Florida high school massacre. The 19-year-old accused in the school slaying bought the AR-15 used in the attack legally.

Oregon law allows residents to buy shotguns or rifles starting at age 18.

Watson is asking judges to force Dick’s and Walmart “to stop unlawfully discriminating against 18, 19, and 20 year-old customers at all Oregon locations.” Additionally, he is asking for unspecified punitive damages.
-----------

2015 ORS 659A.403¹
Discrimination in place of public accommodation prohibited

Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, all persons within the jurisdiction of this state are entitled to the full and equal accommodations, advantages, facilities and privileges of any place of public accommodation, without any distinction, discrimination or restriction on account of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status or age if the individual is of age, as described in this section, or older.
Looks like those fascist PA laws are coming back to haunt some people

So if the conservative nuts on this forum had any intellectual honesty and consisitency,

they would be supporting Dick's and Walmart,

since the RW consensus on this forum at least is that a business should have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

oops.

Personally, i think a business should sell their products however they see fit. I just find it soooooooooo humorous these laws are coming back to bite some in the ass

Actually it depends on how you see PA laws when applied to actual PA's.

I for one think when you invite the public in for business for point of sale items, the government can enforce restrictions on how you do business, ONLY for that part of your business, Contracted services involving non-essential, non-timely, easily replaceable services should not fall under PA regulations.

So a baker would have to sell their batch cupcakes to anyone who walks into the store with enough money to buy them, but could refuse contracted services as their discretion.

It's a messy solution, but where does it say that the solutions have to be easy?

Republicans should just change their name to the Socialist Party of America now that they want to tell private businesses what to do.
since that's all the left wants to do, now what?

the left has no issue forcing people to bake cakes, so again if we're telling businesses what to do - who was socialist first?

I wonder who is funding the kid's lawsuit? The NRA or the so called gun grabbers?
same type of people funding the florida high school rally and efforts.

if you're gonna call people out for their behaviors, don't get overly selective. :)

oops.

Your blanket statement is wrong as usual.

First, if the law is in place, it has to be equally applied. Dicks is an actual PA, in a State where age discrimination is illegal.

2nd, I for one support PA laws when applied to actual PA's. My issue has always been applying them to any business at all.

lol, good one.

Conservatives do believe a retailer can pick and choose what they want to sell.
The law has already determined they don't get to pick and choose who they sell it to.

I'm not supporting anyone or not supporting anyone until I accumulate some more facts. Try it sometime.

And there is widespread belief around here that the law is WRONG on that.

Some of them do, I am just stating my position.

Most of them also want the laws repealed before anyone can do anything they want, you know, the whole rule of law thing.

Okay, so I've heard the baker is winning and I've heard the baker isn't winning.
Any other helpful information to clear this up?

The baker was sued, lost, and forced to pay a $135,000 fine.
The baker was required to give their staff training in Colorado's anti-discrimination laws by the state's Civil Rights Commission.
