Even hate speech is protected by the First Amendment. Thus, the government gets no say in it. In that realm, we can all counter hate speech by exposing it, ridiculing it and demonstrating it’s utter invalidity.
However, whether something is actually hate speech is an even thornier question. And private entities like these message boards have a right to limit free speech. We all know that. That doesn’t make it fair or wise.
Twitter bans Trump not for hate speech but because they don’t like his politics. I don’t believe they should get the protection of Federal laws if they are also going to suppress political speech.
One of the laws I want changed once the GOP reclaims the House is:
Section 230 is a section of Title 47 of the United States Code enacted as part of the United States Communications Decency Act.
If they (shit organizations like Twitter and YouBoob) want to take advantage of Federal protections, then they should accept the principles of free speech. Forbid porn? Ok. Good. But deny a major political figure the same access to public expression as other people merely because you disagree with what he says? Fuck you. Section 230 Protections are no longer available to you.
