Possibly.
But what I think it means basically, is to allow God to work in His own time on your spouse.... Be the best Christian you can be as example of God's goodness and truth, and he'll take it from there kind of thing....
Also, when you read the full chapter, it could be he is talking to only new Christian converts....so your view still could come in to play....?
