If you want to try to salvage conservatism start by being consistent.

For example, if you want to advocate for ‘less government’ then do so consistently: don’t just advocate for less government regulation of businesses, advocate also for less government interference in citizens’ private lives; less government means not trying to ‘ban’ abortion, or prohibiting gay Americans from marrying, or denying transgender Americans their right to self-expression.

Indeed, by simply rejecting the entire hateful social right/religious fundamentalist agenda, conservatives would realize a significant increase in new adherents.
