Women were suffering from rickets - caused by a deficiency of Vitamin D - the "sunshine vitamin", and were forbidden from going to school, getting an education or working.

A woman could not be examined by a doctor unless accompanied by a male chaperone. Many women died due to untreated illnesses. Women could not leave the house without a male relative as a chaperone, attend public events, be photographed, or even speak in public. They could not attend school past age 8, on threat of death.

Women around the world begged the US and other nations to intervene on behalf of the women, but American politicians called the abuse of women an "internal matter", and a matter of "local customs". It was not.

The Taliban will just move back in once the USA is gone, and women will be imprisoned and abused again.
