Climate Activists Seek to Save the Planet by Cutting, Burying Trees

CA chased out the logging companies who used to do that from our National Forests because of an owl that was never really endangered. Those companies also kept fire fighting equipment in their harvest areas because they did not want to lose timber.

"It has been listed as Threatened(opens in new tab) under the federal Endangered Species Act since 1990."

"Threats

As outlined in the Department's Status Review for Northern Spotted Owl (PDF)(opens in new tab), the primary threats to the continued existence of Northern Spotted Owl in California are the rapid expansion of a novel competitor, the Barred Owl, a rapid and accelerating decline in population size and demographic rates (e.g., survival, reproduction, occupancy), and loss of habitat due to wildfire and timber harvest. Additional threats include increases in frequency and severity of wildfires, widespread occurrence of marijuana cultivation on public and private lands, shifts in weather patterns related to climate change, effects of climate change on wildfire patterns and forest vegetation distribution, and the spread of the non-native fungus-like pathogen responsible for Sudden Oak Death Syndrome.

Population Status and Trend

Northern Spotted Owl populations are declining throughout the range of the subspecies and annual rates of decline have been accelerating in many areas, including in California. Population sizes within three large study areas in California have declined 31-55% since the 1990s and these declines are accelerating. The ongoing and increasing effects of Barred Owls, coupled with other threats including habitat loss due to wildfire and timber harvest, and reduced recruitment due to climate change, will likely lead to additional declines into the future."

What information do you have that says otherwise.

Where the fuck did you get the idea that lithium batteries were heavy? HINT: find a copy of the periodic table and see where lithium appears. Check out its atomic weight. Compare that to nickel or iron or lead. Come back and tell us what you found.
EV batteries weigh around 1000 pounds. That's a heavy battery. :omg:

Did anyone ever think that burying a tree will just cause it to grow again? Who is going to strip all the pine cones, acorns and seeds from those trees before burying them?

Leftards once again making the Babylon Bee look like a legitimate news organization.

Through his foundation Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Mr. Gates is a part of the $6.6 million seed investor pool backing Kodama Systems in its proposal to remove trees in California's fire-challenged woodlands and bury them in Nevada to sequester carbon dioxide (CO2).

"We must dramatically accelerate forest thinning treatments," the Boston-based firm says on its website. Kodama calls itself a "technology-driven forest restoration service."

Technology driven!
So is a coal fired steam train.

So Envirowhackos, where’s the data that if we cut down CO2 eating trees and feed them to worms (who turn it into CO2) we save the world?

These people truly are imbeciles.

Sustainable timber harvesting practices would mitigate all these problems, and many more.

I think they're talking about dead trees.

That was already being done before the Sierra Club fucked things up with the spotted owl. They used to point to what they called 'clear cutting' where sections of forest were cleared of growth and say that was a bad thing but, actually, clear cutting allows for new growth. An overgrown forest has no room or sunlight for new growth. Wild fires were the way nature caused new growth. Timber harvesting all but stopped those huge wild fires but now we are back to that again. Nice going, 'environmentalists.' The only environment they hate is environments were humans can live.

Let the free market correct this ... cheap fossil fuels are gone ... now we're burning not-so-cheap fossil fuels and ... where affordable ... wind/solar/hydro is more economical ...

Wind/solar/hydro doesn't help fund Middle East terrorism or the Canadian maple syrup cartel ... that's important to me ...

The cost of burning oil is only going up ... as technology improves, wind/solar/hydro become cheaper ... this alone will cause us to switch over slowly and thoughtfully ... EVs work in the Pacific Northwest ... cheapest in the nation electricity with the infrastructure built to feed California ... God Bless the Bonneville Power Administration ...

Funny, gas was pretty cheap in 2018 but, I agree, let the Market decide as long as it's not manipulated like it is now.

Cutting down and burying trees..that could make oil. :dunno:

Could be they figured out that happens a lot quicker with some catalyst and that's their plan.

(tinfoil hat theory)

Or maybe these people done crossed the Rubicon into Kookoo Kachew for You Land. :dunno:

Then there is abiogenic oil. It comes from the Earth which makes it continually. Certainly there were ungodly slushes before the dinosours? Maybe we'll all eventually become crude. :scared1:

Depth actually makes no difference at all.
The only way to prevent rot back to CO2 in any reasonable amount of time is to seal it airtight with clay.
You would have to essentially mummify it.
Never going to happen.
Only the surface of NV is dry.
Once you go below the surface, there is moisture enough to cause rot.

Not at all. Nature sequestered all that carbon in Nat Gas, Petroleum, and even Peat Moss.

Rot causes NG and Petroleum over time, and that carbon was considered sequestered until will drilled for it and used it.

My .. that's mature ... do you admit there's no law like you claimed? ... or are you nothing but deflection? ... like Republicans ...

You're against EVs because liberals are for them ... this doesn't go any deeper, does it? ...

Three State laws (so far), and the Federal Fleet milage is an end run to force manufacturers to make them.

I am not against EV's, I am against being forced to buy one. either via laws or availability changes caused by laws.

And what do the powertrains (engine, cooling system, transmission, drive shaft(s) and differential) they replace weigh?

So, rakes, leaf blowers, what? We’re going to have to leave the borders wide open to get that done. Any idea how many acres of forest there are just in CA?
Crown fires spread faster than ground fires.

They have rolling brownouts and blackouts every day, you idiot.
