Going vegan to save the planet

Salads are overrated nutritionally, also salad dressings are notoriously loaded with sodium.

The primary function of animal agriculture is improving the fertility of the land, so it produces more, and healthier, foods. Caring for these animals also makes better people. Food and health of people is actually a byproduct of agriculture and is an indicator of its success, or failure. At this point we are failing miserably.
Good post….but nutritious salads are variable. They are dependent upon how much you pay attention to your needs when you make them. As far as animal protein, imo it’s all about the proper roll they play and how much we use them. We eat way too much of it.

People need to change from living to eat to eating to live.
Exactly. Instead of looking forward to a goid meal, I’d like to think we could be eating right so we could look forward to a good hike.

I once went for a run with my dog right after a three-day complete fast. I had so much energy that I think I wore her out.

Meal-in-a-bowl salads can be very nutritious. Regular dinner salads that are mostly lettuce not so much.

My viewpoint on nutrition is based on three things:
  1. If you look at humans' digestive tract, we evolved to be vegetarians (no meat).
  2. But our ancestors, like other vegetarian mammals, spent their entire lives looking for food and trying to stay healthy with only vegetable matter. When they started eating meat it was the springboard to ALL of human advancement, because they could survive and be healthy on just one meal a day, and didn't have to spend all their time foraging for food. So meat is ESSENTIAL, anthropologically speaking.
  3. You can see cultures all over the world where they survive on 90% rice, with a little bit of fish or other animal protein only sporadically, and in many of those cultures, long healthy lives are common.
We are now omnivorous, and I have never seen a vegetarian who actually looks healthy. Indeed, my contemporaries who are vegetarian have more silly little maladies than people who eat a normal diet and don't worry a whit about eating red meat.

Exactly…
We were vegetarians for over twenty years. It’s about education. If you just cut out “ meats, fish and poultry” and call yourself a vegetarian, you’re in big trouble.

We aren’t now because as you age, your nutrition needs change. But moderation is the key as far as animal protein is concerned . The longest lived tend to be moderate high nutrient value food eaters.

My daughter is an off and on vegan but admits that sometimes she needs meat to bolster her strength.

Wealth and health generally go hand in hand. The nations that are rich in animal agriculture are generally wealthier and healthier, even considering the excesses of overconsumption.

Vegan- ism is really hard to deal with nutritionally. Vegetarianism allowing animal products, eggs, milk etc, not so much. B complex vitamins become a big factor.

I rarely eat beef, but I consume lots of milk, eggs, chicken, and of course peanut butter.

Oh, the complete protein….Peanut butter and cheese on whole wheat sandwich. Never go a day without one.
On days when it’s available, peanut butter/ cheese/ on whole wheat bread laced with chopped opinion and sauerkraut.
That and some fruit gives you enough nutrients to take on the world. Peanut butter and cheese are an easy way of getting protein.

Peanut butter and Smucker's strawberry jam on WW toast with a glass of 2 percent is my morning staple. I've cut back on the cheese, too salty.

Substituting 50% of our animal-based foods with plant-based options could cut greenhouse gas emissions from farming by 31% by 2050 and help protect forests and natural land, a new study suggests.

According to a study published in Nature Communications, despite accounting for less than 20% of the global food energy supply, producing animal-based foods like meat, chicken, pork, and milk consumes extensive resources, leading to significant greenhouse gas emissions and harm to biodiversity

"Plant-based meats are not just a novel food product but a critical opportunity for achieving food security and climate goals while also achieving health and biodiversity objectives worldwide," said the study’s co-author, Eva Wollenberg, a social scientist at the University of Vermont. "Yet, such transitions are challenging and require a range of technological innovations and policy interventions."

The Crazy Climate Change Doomsday Cult will not leave other people alone.
They want to force other people to be vegans to save the planet from the imaginary climate change boogeyman.
People need meat because it provides essential amino acids.
I just call em the 3 C's; Climate Change Commies(has a ring to it!). Of course the 3 CCC's will not leave other people alone as the climate change hoax was designed as just another way to control people(PC). The 3 CCC's operate pretty much as other cults do, same tactics but a different subject. If U have ever been around JW's(door knockers) it's easy to see that they tank up on groupthink & also push groupthink for the entire cult operates on groupthink & groupthink alone. Where the JW's are for sure not the brightest bulbs in the box(see right through them) @ least the 3 CCC's put some effort into creating their climate hoax.

I stick up for folks that are on a vegan diet for it is their right to have the diet of their choice. As far as trying to use a back door like POLITICIZED INDUCED falsified facts to promote a hoax(3 CCC's) to gain power & control(3 CCC's) over other people(criminal act) is not acceptable. The three issues I would like to see become reality when pres. Trump/admin. opens fire with his 1st fusillade is;

1) Launch ALL illegal aliens out of our USA, finish border wall, proper vetting for potential new citizens of our USA, harsh penalties for illegals caught in country.

2) Defund the Dept. of Education & return education to the states.

3) Defund the EPA & let the states set up their own guidelines regarding any environmental issues.

If the Trump administration can score on the 3 issues above back to back then we can look forwards to the statist left throwing a Warp 10 Full Senile Attack(W10FSA!) + a Full Catastrophic Conniption Fit(FCCF!) that's guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser MAX for the Conservative viewing audience!!!
