California Hottest Winter on Record

This is a joke thread right? Trying to prove global warming by California's winter?

Geeze louise we were colder than the surface temperature of Mars one day. Now that's a freaking record! It's been one hell of a winter.

The OP is a Mother Jones production.. Not known for their Math abilities..
I have NO IDEA what those numbers mean in their chart and I seriously dont think THEY do either.
Perhaps Star would like to explain where the ACTUAL NUMBERS on that map come from.. From the OP.

The map above ranks every state's winter temperature average relative to its own historical record low (in other words, relative to itself and not to other states). Low numbers indicate that the state was unusually cold; higher numbers mean it was exceptionally warm.

So -- for each state -- you take the RECORD LOW and compare that to the season avg. (Dec --> Feb)

And do WHAT??
How does California get a 119? And is that the ALL-TIME record low youre comparing? Or just the record low for each day?
Article mentioned that California 119 as the number of years going back to the record -- but THAT is not a measure of warmth.....

ANYONE??? Or are we just consuming undocumented crap here? I think we've been punked again... Rep points to anyone who can explain the methodology to me...

Earth may be about to have a mini ice age as the sun is in a cooling cycle with few sun spots. ANYONE SEEN AL GORE????

The east coast as "average" huh...... suuuuure it was...

Got something that says different?

Pick a city....ANY city, and this is what you'll get. The idiots that made that statement should have learned a long time ago to never tell a lie that is too easily proven false. They just rely on the fact that idiots won't remember, or bother to check on them. Which one are you?

Arctic cold sets records in eastern United States

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The eastern and central United States were plunged into a deep freeze on Tuesday, with record low temperatures in the wake of a deadly storm expected to moderate in coming days.

The late-winter storm left behind frigid temperatures after pushing freezing rain, sleet and snow from the Mississippi Valley to the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for December–February was the eighth highest on record for this period, at 0.57°C (1.03°F) above the 20th century average of 12.1°C (53.8°F). The Northern Hemisphere had its eighth warmest winter and the Southern Hemisphere tied with 2005 and 2013 for its sixth warmest summer in the 135-year period of record.

The globally-averaged temperature across land surfaces was the 10th highest for December–February on record and highest for the period since 2009, at 0.87°C (1.57°F) above the 20th century average of 8.1°C (46.4°F). The Northern Hemisphere land was 11th warmest on record for the period, with some sharp north-south patterns in the polar jet stream that contributed to below-average temperatures in some regions and above-average temperatures in others. Parts of Far East Russia were record warm, with some regions having temperatures more than 5°C (9°F) above their averages. On the other hand, parts of the central and northern United States and southern Canada had cooler to much-cooler-than-average temperatures, according to the Land & Ocean Temperature Percentiles map above. The Southern Hemisphere land overall was fourth warmest, with the land areas in the 30°S–60°S latitude belt record warm for austral summer, at 1.02°C (1.84°F) above average. Much of South America, central Australia, and large parts of central Africa were much warmer than average.

The problem you have is it wasn't a cold day "here and there" it was record breaking cold week after week. Your OP is propaganda, pure and simple. In other words it's shit. The actual temperature records for most of the east expose the lie.

Hmmmmmmmm.................... Star posts data, and you, Westwall, post flap-yap. So which poster has the most credibility?

That's weather, not climate.

Thanks for agreeing me-----me and 97% of climate scientists. 'bout time deniers began pulling the wool from their eyes and agreeing with what some of us have been saying for years...WTG

you post someone else's crap (I guess Mother Jones is your mommy and daddy) then beat your chest like it was from you so we should all agree with it

all you are is a globull warming cult member useful tool

you don't look intelligent one bit

LOL. Look in the mirror, Staph. Every Scientific Society, every National Academy of Science, and every major University in the world has policy statements that AGW is a fact, and that it is a clear and present danger. People like you have only unsupported flap-yap from uneducated charatans.

Hahahahaha
Damn near the whole country was below average, and you pick out the one state that was above record.
Haha....you can't make this stuff up.

Not at all. Look at the map. The area that was about average or higher is actually larger than the area that was colder. Them's just the facts.

:lol::lol:
Ok - so you grouped together the "about average" with the hot states, er sorry - the single hot state.
Hahahahaha

It's globull warming!!!

We'd better raise taxes and restrict freedom!!!!

OK, what the hell do you suggest we do? There is an obvious problem, one affecting us right now, not just in the future. So, what do you say to do?

Deny that there is a problem? Crawl into your alternative reality until the problem becomes overwhelming, and then realize no adaptive steps have been taken at all, and there is no longer time for those steps? In addition to denial, punish those that have pointed out the problem? Some of you "Conservatives" have attempted that.

Ignore the problem, pretend it doesn't exist? After all, when you are sitting athwart the railroad track, and you see the frieght train highballing toward you, nothing at all happens between the time that you see it, and the time it hits you.

Or address the problem, drawing on as many disciplines and experts as possible. Fix what can be fixed, and prepare to adapt to what cannot be fixed.

What is your solution?

The solution is for you to drain your swimming pool and stop being a hypocrite. You are the problem but for some reason you're superior to everyone and your waste of energy for a frivolous luxury is okay.

Global Warming Activists are all hypocrites. Gluttons for the luxuries that many of us have not do to practicality.

Quite drinking Coca Cola, Hypocrite.

Use no heat in the winter nor any air conditioning, Hypocrite.

I can go on and on, like quite wasting energy posting on usmessageboard, or are of such high intellect and superiority that you believe your petty bickering is saving the world?

The fact of the matter is, Global Warming Activists are of a few types, easily duped fools, political marxist activists, or simply cowards who are beholden worshipers of Government.

Well, obviously you can go on and on. On and on with really stupid posts. The issue is climate change due to a warming globe. A problem that we have caused, and that will negatively affect every human being on this planet.

Now you flap your yap a lot, but present no links to evidence. Since when does anyone accept bald faced statements on a message board as evidence for anything at all? I see nothing in your posts that would indicate a high degree of education in science. In fact, what I see indicates the opposite.

What is your solution?

What is the problem? The fact that the earth's climate is in a constant state of flux and has been for millennia? If CO2 is responsible, as you and your cohorts insist, why has AGW "paused" for the past 15 years while CO2 levels have risen??

Who cares. They ALL derive the majority of their funding by perpetuating the fraud....FOLLOW THE MONEY!

Funny how you can follow that little truism when it suits you, but when it harms your little death cult you turn a blind eye to it.

We'll see what happens when the Warmers at the APS meet real scientific method.

Like I said, I predict a first round knockout of the Warmers, if they even show up at all to defend their "Settled Science Consensus"

I've been scratching my head trying to figure out HOW they came up with that. It's not possible through normal means. Maybe they were "enhanced" with some of their "product".

Well no points for you, but you get a +1 for caring... It's driving me crazy trying to figure out what statistical CRIME was committed to get to that cheery news.. I've figured out that the numbers and colors represent a RANK in number of years. Since the 119 from California indicates that it broke SOME KIND of 119 year record..

But in the past -- the warmers were crowing about each metric being the 2nd highest or the 4th HIGHEST --- Are they now crowing about the fact that Tennessee only made the 23 LOWEST temperature for that period?? If so --- we've pretty much won that contest..

:disbelief:

And it wouldn't be unusual for California to break a state-wide record when compared to a single number of "All time LOW temperature".. Since states that have the highest VARIANCE in temperature would be the most volatile.. After all, I've been to Santa Cruz in the surf one day at 80degF and skiing in the Sierras the next at 25degF..

Anyone can butcher statistics.. Even "amateurs"...
