Breaking News. Plane crash in DC. Collided with either helicopter or drone over Potomac.

News report on Fox (unconfirmed) that SOME survivors have been pulled from the river.
Saw a report of four earlier. Sadly, many would be still in their seats at the bottom of the river.
What good would those do if the aircraft was on final and neither saw each other?
Reports said the RJ was descending on approach and the helo was climbing.
Just saw (on Fox) that the helo pilot was asked by the tower if he could see the plane, then he was instructed to go behind the plane but right then, they collided.
It's not that easy seeing A/C at night.

Yeah, good point but they said there was a 10 mile view and good weather. You would also think that the blackhawk would have some kind of proximity sensor to warn them of the approaching plane.
The likelihood of that happening probably doesn't warrant the cost.

You ought to see the attacks on X against Hegseth over this.

Military flying in FAA civilian controlled airspace.....not military operations.

Very murky preliminary details?

Why start a thread if you have nothing?

Oh wait!

I'm first! Look at me! I'm a citizen journalist!

The details were murky. But it was indeed breaking news.

You’re not even remotely aware of what a moron you are.

It’s ok, though. Everyone else sees you for what you are you useless troll-boi ****.

The dainty has nothing. 👍

Just in, another jet was taking off close by. Speculation is that the helo crew saw a different plane than the tower was telling them to avoid.
This one makes no sense. I’ve been watching planes take off and land at Gravelly Point right next to national airport for years. That’s on the north side. There’s a mile distance between planes lined up when approaching from the south over the Wilson bridge. At night you can see approach lights on several planes at a time. They appear closer than a mile apart. This means there are planes taking off and landing near each other constantly. Only one runway big enough for commercial jets.
The helicopters taking off from Bolling AFB usually follow a river path and maintain low altitude until they clear the area.
This one makes absolutely no sense.
