Here's a bit of perspective from a former ARFCOM commercial piolet.

I used to be a captain on a CRJ 700 and have flown into DCA a bunch of times.

Professional opinion DCA is a crap airport to fly airliners into.

-You need to hand fly the departure to make sure you’re not going to bust the airspace on the other side of the river.

-If you have an engine failure, fire or emergency you’re going to IAD. DCA simply put isn’t a safe option. It’s too crowded and the runways are too short.

-The ground crews are third world idiots.

-Finally the DCA airport authority is simply put is trying to mix too many aircraft with vastly different pilot skill levels in a fucked up airspace situation.

I can tell you right now the 121 kids out of that airport are professionals and know what they’re doing. The GA,135 and military people are some variation of professional to semi functional retard.

Really the 121 kids need to get moved to IAD (Dulles) and let the rest of them figure out their bullshit.

For this accident, The PSA CRJ was exactly where they should have been. On speed, flaps 45 and gear down ready for landing. Getting a traffic RA like that with a helo trying to T-bone you is incredibly difficult to impossible resolving. - rno172

He's referring to FAR's chapter s 121 and 135..... They cover aircraft ops. And GA.......general aviation.

Part 121 regulates scheduled airlines with strict safety standards, requiring pilots to have an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. Part 135 applies to charter and commuter operations, demanding higher qualifications for pilots and rigorous maintenance standards to ensure passenger safety.

That area has to be a virtual zoo to operate in.
