Biden going to raise tax on tobacco...so no one earning under $400k uses Tobacco?

So
Knowing what we know now. Smoking is just stupid and expensive

So is soda, beer, whiskey, wine, scotch, pizza, candy, sugar, salt, driving an automobile, going to a casino, buying a boat, water skiing...

Literally everything we do that isn't required for survival so let's just ban it all or tax it so much that only the wealthy can afford it.

Dumb logic

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US ON THIS BOARD uses some substance or is involved in some activity that isn't healthy or has inherent danger involved.

Stop trying to micromanage the lives of others just because the choices you try to push on them don't affect you

Not what I meant and conflating pizza with cigarettes is retarded.

The Dim Reich is all about control. They know best, but just what we can do.....doesn't affect them or their vices.

What happened to the Biden lie that taxes would not go up on people earning under $400k?

The Democrats' $3.5 trillion budget proposal relies on a $100 billion tax hike that disproportionately targets the poor, lines the pockets of organized crime, and increases inequality.

The plan doubles the federal tax on cigarettes, which would break President Joe Biden's promise to raise taxes only on those earning more than $400,000. Households with an income of $35,000 or less smoke at three times the rate of households with incomes of more than $100,000. Richard Marianos, a 27-year veteran of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives who worked on gang violence, said a tobacco tax increase will punish vulnerable communities.

Good for Biden. Lincoln did the same thing to pay for the cost of the Civil War

Cost of Smoking-Related Illness
Smoking-related illness in the United States costs more than $300 billion each year, including: More than $225 billion for direct medical care for adults. More than $156 billion in lost productivity, including $5.6 billion in lost productivity due to secondhand smoke exposure.

The author of this thread is stupid. Not ignorant, but stupid to his core.

If your figures are correct, that means America is saving a bundle. When I was a kid, smoking was everywhere, the entire habit has really declined big time in America during the past 50 years. How much productivity has the US gained from the decline, and where is the money at- if your numbers are correct.

The problem with your figuring is that sure, it costs money to treat someone who is dying from lung cancer and emphysema. However, by the virtue of the fact that they are digging their graves for their early death, it saves the expense of treating them for alzheimer's , parkinsons, or any numerous other ailments of old age.

What social activists are missing is that the overall mortality of Americans is 100%. If you don't kill yourself with smoking, driving or aids, something else just as expensive will come around and clip you.

I applaud this and I still smoke an occasional American Spirit. Also recently voted for a state initiative that raised the price of a pack of my brand from around $7.70 to over ten bucks.

If it means better programs for smoking cessation and encourages people to quit or even cut down? GOOD

It doesn't affect others? What about all the increased medical costs associated with it? Isn't that one of the complaints about smoking?

Surely you support higher taxes on food that causes obesity, right?

How about taxing cell phones because of their unhealthy aspects--cellphone neck, texting thumb, surfing unhealthy sites, etc. etc.

Let’s just make tobacco products illegal. If they were invented today, no way would they ever be allowed to be sold.
