I put the blame for that squarely on Koresh and the Branch Davidians.
I put the blame for the botched raid on ATF arrogance. Then again, Koresh could have come out peacefully and answered a legally served search warrant.
Instead we get a fire fight, dead ATF agents, and then they compound the mistake by letting a whack job dig in for 50 days while he spouts his manifesto and wires the place with gasoline drums.
They should have know who they were dealing with right away. Going back into the compound (by force if necessary) would have saved a lot of those children's lives.
