Not with firearms with live bullets. The only time that happened was a summer training camp, and it was highly controlled. We were cleared of all ammo before leaving the range.
But we often used training weapons for drill and for tactical training, and were taught hand-to-hand fighting (and not Queensbury Rules).
Or they may have just kicked the shit out of him.
