Baltimore and Chicago about to get the same assistance Washington, DC is getting

We lock up more people in this country than any other country in the world, including Communist China.

If prisons were the answer, we'd be there already.
Speedy execution is the answer.

Well, if Baltimore and Chicago successfully defeats Trump on this yet crime in their cities proliferates, who wins??

I understand him sending troops there might be a good thing and might actually help, but just because something is good doesnt mean you can violate the cotus to do it.

Do either specifically prohibit the federal government from using its resources to protect American citizens?
Yes, it does:

any powers not specifically given to the federal government by the Constitution, nor prohibited to the states, are reserved to the states or the people.

There is a path to use troops inside states, but only if used under the insurrection act, as far as im aware.

And neither do the courts

I can't disagree with you. If he doesnt have a legitimate use of the insurrection act, this isnt something he can do, under Posse Comitatus.

True. This exercise and debate sure is exposing the failures of city, state, and local governments in Maryland, Illinois, and others when it comes to welfare and safety of its citizens.

States may win the 10th Amendment debate but they are going to lose politically. They are going to be shown for putting politics before people.

Oh, 100% you are right. But, we have to be consistent about the constitution, and break its laws when it suits us. Sometimes doing the right thing means you have to do it even if its something that goes against what you want..

Illegals and those who support illegals violate the cotus regularly and the best justification for that is “who is going to pick the lettuce?”

Yes, it does:

It was finally got it corrected in 2024 after he was Governor. Blame tne Army and not him…. He who let the whole world know that he was awarded the Bronze Star. It took him becoming Governor for the fucked up Army to correct it.

Kind of typical for the Army, really.

It took me a year after I was discharged to get a pay issue resolved. Then they screwed up and paid me twice.

Speedy execution is the answer.

Given we've exonerated 200 Death Row prisoners who were sent there in error, I don't think you want to speed that up.

Let's get realistic here. The Death Penalty is not a deterrent.

Only three reasons why people kill.

They are insane. The DP isn't going to stop that.
They are going through a moment of extreme stress. The DP isn't going to stop that, either.
Or they think they are really clever and aren't going to get caught. The DP isn't going to stop that.

So, your message is that crime is just too hard to solve, so no one should even try? Unacceptable.

No, my message is that what we are doing isn't working, and the definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results.

Most European countries lock up less than 100,000 people and have abolished the Death Penalty. Yet they have nowhere near our crime rates.

Why? Because they address the underlying causes.

They reduce poverty through generous social welfare programs.
They don't let every idiot who wants a gun have one.
They treat addiction as a medical problem, not a criminal one.
They have a strong infrastructure for treating mental illness.

You keep trying to shift the blame to the Army and equivocally compare a major recognition to a typical back pay or benefits issue. That is not the case. The controversy is that Moore falsely claimed he already received the Bronze Star for decades; including, claiming it on fellowship application nearly 20 years ago.

As a citizen of Maryland, I have greater concern over Moore’s fiscal mismanagement resulting in inheriting a $3.2B surplus and creating a $2B deficit in a very short period of time while also raising taxes and egregiously raising fees.

Ok, here’s what I hear you saying….

1. Increase dependence on the government

2. Restrict or abolish 2a

3. Coddle the drug trade

4. Increase mental incarceration…(we agree on that one)

All but number 4 have been tried for literally decades. Talk about doing the same thing expecting different results….👌

I lived in Bel Air for 20 years….We left.

Or he was told he was awarded it, and the Army never followed through.

On a related note, I was awarded the National Defense Service Medal on my DD-214 because I was on active duty during the Gulf War. However, my unit wasn't deployed, and they didn't have enough of the medals to give out to everyone. So when I finally got out in 1992, I still hadn't gotten the physical medal. I did have it on my record and wore the ribbon on my ribbon rack.

That's a little disingenuous, even for you. Maryland had a "Surplus" because of Covid money from the Federal government. It's like saying you won a lottery prize and had a surplus, but you didn't increase your income and your expenses remained about the same.

So where are we now? Ignoring the financial recklessness of the Hogan administration, Republicans are now blaming Gov. Wes Moore for a structural deficit that fiscal experts have warned us about for the past eight years.

Gov. Moore has been clear since day one of his administration that the state’s finances were not as rosy as Hogan led Marylanders to believe. In a letter to the state legislature in January 2023, the governor wrote that Maryland was experiencing a temporary “surplus created by a series of rare financial tailwinds unlikely to continue.” At the same time, Moore called for fiscal restraint in an op-ed published by The Baltimore Sun.

The Moore-Miller administration followed through by consistently introducing budgets with general funds smaller than the previous year — including Hogan’s final budget proposal in 2022. This January, Gov. Moore proposed his initial plan to close the state’s $3 billion structural deficit by combining $2 billion in cuts with $1 billion in new revenue generated through changes to the tax code.

The Purpose and Functions of the National Guard

  • Domestic law enforcement measures.

Here is the rest in Domestic law enforcement....that you failed to post...and is pretty important, imo.

Domestic Law Enforcement Measures

Domestic law enforcement is the role that most people probably think about when it comes to the purpose of the National Guard.

The phrase “calling in the national guard” isn’t always a positive one, as it often means that there is a scene of potentially dangerous unrest.

For example, National Guard troops can be called in to help law enforcement during riots and protests that get out of hand.

One of the most recent examples of the National Guard being used to deal with civil unrest was during the Black Lives Matter protests.

Many state officials were quick to call in their National Guard to protect police and break up protests after a police officer in Minneapolis murdered George Floyd.

The idea of bringing in the National Guard is often a threat made to help end such protests. The Guard shouldn’t be too proactive on the front line but can assist law enforcement logistically. They are also often brought in to enforce a curfew and show a presence on the streets
.

And the President can use them in the States, only under the Insurrection Act, which limits him greatly.

How Much Power Does the President Have Over the National Guard?

Presidents will often threaten to deploy the National Guard in situations and make strong suggestions for state officials to use them.

However, the Posse Comitatus Act was created to stop the president from taking advantage of these state-based forces. The Insurrection Act also provides a backup for circumventing that law where essential.

There is a bit of a grey area regarding Washington, D.C., though. D.C. isn’t a state, so it doesn’t have a governor to instruct the guards. Instead, the president or Pentagon must do so. This led to a weak situation during the storming of the capitol in January 2021. Many felt the response was too weak and slow as President Trump’s supporters entered the building
.

Wow, so you hear what you want to hear, that must be an awful way to go through life.

1. The cost of the Prison industrial complex is far higher than more social programs.

2. The Second Amendment has been misinterpreted as a universal right to gun ownership, which was never the intent of the Founders.

3. No, just be realistic about it. You can't fix addiction by incarcerating poor people. Rich people get rehab and amazingly, they never commit crimes afterwards. How about doing that with poor addicts?

I despised Rush Limbaugh, but I never thought he should have gone to prison because he became addicted to painkillers. The difference is he had the affluence to get access to rehab and good lawyers to keep him out of jail.

4. I didn't say to increase incarceration. Most of these people could be treated on an outpatient basis. The problem was when the courts closed the mental hosptials, the GOP cut funding for health care to give tax cuts to rich people.

No, most of these things haven't been tried. Regarding gun control, Chicago used to have fairly sensible gun laws. Then the McDonald decision nullified them, and we got crime shooting through the roof.

Or he was told he was awarded it, and the Army never followed through.

- Moore has stated that his siting the award on applications “was a mistake”. If you were told at the time you were awarded but had not yet received the Bronze Star or any other recognition, no need to apologize. The reality is he lied.

- You don’t live in Maryland. I do. A surplus is a surplus. Democrats have been trying to diminish Hogan’s fiscal achievements over two terms by giving credit to COVID. This is all in an attempt to cover up Moore’s drastic fall to a deficit. Businesses and retirees are leaving the state to Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Moore is being challenged by a lifelong Democrat supporter and businessman who will run as a Republican.

Wes Moore is using Maryland as a stepping stone to contend for President….. nothing wrong with that. He needs to win the second term to help him toward ms that goal but his fiscal management failures are going to make it hard for him to win.

I don't want to ever hear anybody who supports Trump talk about states rights or small government ever again. They've proven they never really believed in these concepts.
States don't have the right to blatantly allow criminals to stamp on individual rights. They do have the right to decide how they will handle that. When they DON'T handle that at all they are in contempt of the Federal Constitution and Bill of Rights. States' rights don't mean they can just ignore the Federally guaranteed rights of their citizens. You need to stop projecting things in black & white.
