If there is no God, and if there is no life after death - including a reward for virtue and punishment for evil, then what is the meaning of life? Why be "good"? Why not just exploit everything and everyone to our own personal advantage.

As others have said before me, the Believer goes through life hoping he is right, while the intelligent Atheist hopes he is wrong.

What a child like view of life
You better be good or God is going to send you to eternal suffering

Atheists are good because it is the right thing to do. We don’t need any rewards or punishments

How do you know what is right if there isn’t a moral absolute truth which serves as a standard?

When a Christian looks into the sky, he can not only see the sun and the moon, but he can also look into the heavens. All atheists are capable of seeing when they look into the sky are the sun and the moon.

"He sees you when you're slee-ping ...
He knows when you're a-wake ...
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for good-ness sake!"

I know, you think I'm kid-ding ... :ack-1:

To be a nice person is far more enjoyable than being an asshole. I know of so many televangelists who are assholes. They compound their wealth and cry for money to help the downtrodden who never sees any help from them.

Golden Rule
Treat others as you would like to be treated

Not because you are afraid to go to hell or because you expect some reward

Why does everyone think there has to be a "meaning of life?"
Exactly

You eat, shit, sleep, fuk and eventually die.
Beyond that, you are on your own. You make of it what you choose

Thats seriously some pretty shallow thinking.

Do you know what a steel-man argument is?

Have you ever tried it?

Why the heck would those questions even occur to someone who has the gift of "contemplation?"

Try positing answers to the very questions you've asked...you'll see that it wasnt very difficult.

Everybody knows you better watch out with Santa

I thought we were talking about God

Aren't we? The moral lesson is the same whether mature or geared to children

Then you rank yourself with the beasts of the planet?

I am a beast!

You said it.

Do you think you were made in Gods image?

What I see in the mirror? No.

It shows that the same threats and incentives that work on gullible young children work on religious adults

Threats and incentives are common practices in training animals, which you just claimed to be. Ergo ...

Those without a moral code respond just as Pavlovian to their baser instincts.

Atheists have a moral code
It is based on doing the right thing not doing things because God is watching you
