Are YOU getting old "gracefully"???

I'm 76, turn 77 in a coupla months. Getting old ain't no picnic, that's for sure. I lost my wife last year and I wanted to end it all, but there are people that need my help and that kept me going. I think that's what makes live worth living at any age, helping somebody else. Plus, sometimes it's fun to find somebody on this forum that is a dumbshit more than I am; makes me feel good.

so far so good
hair is not as thick as when I was 20 but that is expected
not a chrome dome but it's thinner
if I grow a beard my mustache is dark but the rest is grey although my hair is not grey, weird
I can't fit into 30 jeans anymore, more like 33 but still around the same size

this could change though and I would not be surprised but I try to stay active

Yeah, I try to keep going on my own, but it seems the more I go, the more it wears me down, and the less I can go.

I used to love to walk around the block a couple times during the summer, now I can barely make it to my car without passing out or have my knees give out and fall on my fucking face.

I'm trying to stay away from the wheelchair option for as long as I possibly can, but it's creeping up on me fast.

I'd like to buy one of those 4 wheeled, standup electric scooters so I could at least be outside again during the summer, but the one I need for my size and weight cost around $5000.00. I aint got that.

In the past 6 months I've been to a bone specialist, vascular specialist, joint specialist, foot specialist........and they all claim they haven't found anything except arthritis in my knees.

I have one specialist left, which is a neurologist. But I won't be seeing them for two more months, as I have some other stuff I need to buy before I can save up money for more specialist bills.
Pfft, i could get you rocketing down the road for a fraction of $5k.
Do you really wanna go that fast on something with wheels that small? Is the real question.
If so , there are like 30 mile range haul ass scooter possibilities.

Just remember Ace, in the NFL, they consider you washed up and over the hill at age 37.
depends on position, QB that cannot be touched maybe 40, RB who gets hit often early 30's with injuries and the WR who just can't run as fast
most linemen can play until 40 unless their knees just can't take it anymore

I'm 80 now. Lots slower. I can still balance on one foot pretty well, but yeah, getting older sucks.

I think it all pivots on how you handled change when you were young. Life is nothing but changes, and you have to roll with it and enjoy what is there and not worry about what is not. I am 77, and we didn't exactly take the best care of ourselves, with hearing and eye protection, especially in the military and jobsites. All 20 somethings think they're bullet proof, and we all have the scars and limitations that go with them. I believe you have to stay as active as you can and do what you can even if it's just mowing the lawn. Once you give up the end will come fast. I had some regret giving up bow and duck hunting, but enjoyed more fishing time, and now drive the Jeep on the beach instead of carrying gear. Adapt and enjoy. Getting old ain't for pussies, but it doesn't have to be a curse unless you really want it to be. Your body is telling you things, and you should know that by now. It helps very much if you have an aging partner to share the experience with, you should have already had that in place too. You should have already learned by now that you don't have to explain anything to anyone, it is what it is.

We have a bunch of old guys with scooters tied up the sidewalks, and all I can say is "more power to youse guys."
women become invisible passed what 45? I have never had plastic surgery or any facial injections

I do take eye injections and I am lucky they are slowing the progress of the macular

plus I seem to bounce in and out of the hospital... I feel like a burden on my hubby who is more active and all..(he has had 4 joint replacements)

good golly, not sure I could take a needle to the eye, that must be really odd
I still can't wrap my head around how they can replace any joint, but 4? that is over my head
flesh, blood and nerves to get to the bone need to be put aside

it's not like replacing a spark plug

my grandfather had his hip replaced 30+ years ago and it worked and it still amazes me and tech now with robotics is way better

on a lighter note women past 45 turn into cougars and make themselves not invisible ;)

you would be amazed what you can do when blindness is the only other option...and they numb your eye...the worst part are the eye drops...you wont feel the shot...hubby has had two knees replaced and two shoulder reversals...he is doing great...just sets off metal detectors

Are YOU getting old "gracefully"?

I am not. I hate it, it sucks, I despise it, and people tend to get pissed off with me a lot because I keep having to fucking EXPLAIN that I can't do some things I used to do anymore BECAUSE of my body falling apart and not being able to do all the things I used to do.
It's not that I hate getting older, I hate what it brings.........pain, suffering, medical problems, expenses that eat up all of your money, etc..... And I am NOT taking it well at all.
How are YOU taking getting older????
