In my experience, except in the extreme case of a critical injury for which movement could cause permanent damage; when something is hurting, movement brings blood to the area and keeps the body well oiled.

The old saying "slow down, live longer" only applies to heavy physical workload (which I have experienced at times in my life), especially with age. In general, once you slow down, your body decides it does not have a purpose anymore.

Yes, I can't sit or stand too long, or I have a hard time moving.

You were misery. The best part of three days of misery. You can handle misery. You are a great man. :)

I just kept telling myself, "This too will pass".

back problems have a middle ground .. sometimes those with back problems take yrs of dealing with said problem to find that middle ground .. they find the maximum amount of exercise they can do , walking , resistance training ECT .. and the maximum amount of rest they should have without overdoing said things ..

Most back problems are muscular and respond to rest. Skeletal/spinal is a more serious matter.

The older one gets the more important it is to lift as heavy as humanly possible. Walk or run more miles than ever. Pain while running is acceptable.

I use light weights. My muscles could take heavier weights but I'm not sure my joints can. :omg:

I have a lot of arthritis in my lower spine. I have an electric scooter I got free from the VA, but I walk a bit every day for exercise.

Walking moderately with a cane, while keep the back straight & moving slowly, is good for the back.

Swimming is good exercise too. For people with lower back trouble, swim on your side (moderately). Looks funny, but its just as good exercise. That + a healthy diet is what keeps me young. Picture in my avatar was taken just 2 years ago, and I still look like that - I'm 80 years old.
