I completed one of my most loathed tasks yesterday, that being driving to an emissions testing station to "test" my car for emissions compliance. So guess what they tested? I'll read directly off the 'compliance' document:

KEY ON/ENGINE OFF BULB CHECK: PASS
KEY ON/ENGINE RUNNING BULB CHECK: PASS
OBD CONNECTOR INTEGRITY: PASS
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT: PASS
GAS CAP INSPECTION: PASS

CONGRATULATIONS! THANK YOU FOR HELPING CLEAN OUR AIR!

Yep, CA has made a cottage industry out of it for about 40 years. LOL, you have to have your car checked every two years in spite of new car warranties that cover 5 years OR you can pay the state $$$ that are more than the cost of the inspection to be exempted for that time. Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

As a general rule of thumb, regardless of party, if the government is doing something, it is generally some sort of grift for someone.

I was watching a video made by a guy that goes camping all over and reports on the campground. He had just bought himself a low mile Jeep. 20,000 miles as I recall.

It started running rough and he was getting warning lights. Dealer told him he had a bad 02 censor. On his way......started off again but this time the carbon monoxide detector he had in the trailer started going off.

Next dealer told him he had 2 other bad sensors. Fixed and Jeep is fixed. Not spewing out carbon monoxide at these levels isn't a bad thing.

So what did the state-mandated inspection station have to do with this story? Ditto for the exemption fee. The car notified the driver of the problem and the dealership covered it--

They would catch the car emitting all that carbon dioxide.

Yes, but some ignore.
Yeah, some ignore obvious safety violations--excessively worn tires, burned out lights etc. CHP had checkpoints that used to perform that valuable service but they decided to do away with it. The point remains, the inspection is useless in most cases and there are many unscrupulous inspection station owners that will make sure your vehicle passes. Next time you have yours checked, ask the tech if he has a spare gas cap that will pass in his toolbox. You have been thoroughly indoctrinated.

Cool story bro! Of course it's completely irrelevant to the EMISSIONS TESTING SCAM that is the subject of this thread.

Another topic. I don't have to get mine checked. We do have state inspections but they don't check emissions.

Yes, I can get an inspection sticker for a car that shouldn't pass.

Still ignoring the thread subject. State Emissions testing is a SCAM. I didn't say every state does it, but many do.
