Are College Students Really This Dumb?

No, there aren't.
College is free in Germany, even to foreigners. At least that's what they told me when I was visiting there last year. There are surely incidental costs that one would have to cover on one's own, but the college education itself is provided by the Sovereign.

You lose Skippy

Yes — many of the public universities in California, especially those in the University of California system, were tuition-free for in-state students for much of the 20th century.

Here’s the key context:
🏫 What “free” actually meant
  • Students did not pay tuition (called “tuition” or “instructional fees”).
  • However, they still paid small fees for things like campus services, housing, and books.

📜 Why it was free
💸 When that changed
  • Starting in the 1970s, California began introducing and gradually increasing fees due to:
    • Budget pressures
    • Economic downturns
    • Reduced state funding per student

  • Over time, these fees evolved into what we now recognize as full tuition.

Reagan, who as governor ended free tuition at the University of California, put into place the foundations for the explosion in college tuition we see today.

I would say more like the usual percentage, about 10%, as it has been historically. My great aunts and uncles and grandparents were very well educated, mostly self-educated , being from small towns. My grandmothers went to the teaching schools and became teachers, My grandfather went to France in WW I as a supply corp quartermaster and got military training in accounting and logistics, and after the war studied on his own to become a CPA, another did the same and passed the bar exam on his first try, and another uncle did go to school and became an engineer at a military school. My aunts went the teaching schools and accounting night schools while working, and continued to work after marriage. There were other alternatives besides attending universities, and most people took advantage of those. All managed to do well even during the Depression and after WW II.
Here is a stat that I find enlightening: In 1930, only 25% of Americans graduated from High School. And we all know that HS at that time was a much more rigorous learning challenge than it is today. I figure in a sane world, about 25% of the population (mainly in the male population, in my opinion) can be trained to be LEADERS and highly-educated technical professionals. Nothing wrong with being in the 75% that's left over, but sending someone with a 100 IQ to college is a fool's errand. They are not college material.

Like Charlie Kirk says and it's true, HALF of college students will graduate and get a job that doesn't even require a college degree. That's what happened to me. Even 25 years ago I was questioning the point of going to college if 6 dollars an hour is all I can make for 4 years of staying up until midnight studying for tests, midterms, doing home work, and finals.
Charlie Kirk never graduated.
He learned how to make a fortune off of low intelligence MAGAs

Some college graduates don’t succeed. But as a whole, they do better than both HS graduates and Tech School graduates

It's not JUST me, it's OVER HALF OF COLLEGE STUDENTS.

College is not worth it if you graduate with 6 digits of debt and a low paying job that doesn't even require a college degree. HALF of all college students will find themselves in this situation. Something that has a failure rate of 50% doesn't work.

My degree was in insurance and risk management. I couldn't find any jobs in risk management and the only insurance job I was offered was driving around in my PERSONAL VEHICLE collecting 1 dollar premiums for 1000 dollar life insurance policies from old people in a small town 30 miles from where I lived at the time.

Um no, thanks.

Unless you go into engineering or nursing, college is simply not worth the expense. Instead, go to a trade school, learn how to weld, how to do plumbing, etc, THEN you make major bucks AND have no debt. I make 30 dollars an hour driving a truck, WHEN I'M ROLLING. My neighbor owns his own HVAC company. He charges 125 an hour for his labor. He's never been to college. He's certified in HVAC, though. His little one-man company grosses well over $350,000 a year. 5 years ago he installed a new AC system in my house. Took him 2 days. He charged me 3000 dollars labor. He said today, that unit costs TWICE as much. $3000 in profit in TWO DAYS, 5 years ago.

If you don't want to get your hands dirty, you can drive a truck like me. Some companies, albeit the sucky ones, offer FREE CDL school in return for you working for them for 12 months. Not the best way to do it, but if you're living on a park bench, it is a way to get yourself into this industry. With some experience you can really go places. (no pun intended)

My buddy doesn't have a college degree and he makes a damn good living selling health insurance, life insurance, aflac, disability, ad&d, etc. He sells to a lot of small business owners who want to get their employees health insurance. But sounds like your degree would be good for that.

In any case, you are correct you don't need go to go to college to get that license.

I think there are lots of companies who could use a person who knows insurance and risk management. You just never landed a good job. 50% of the people who go to college do.

That 50% is misleading too. Is it working in jobs that do not require a degree or that don't use their degree? Two different things.

Again, on average, we make about $33K a year more than people who don't. I'm a perfect example of that. The average person makes about $50K a year and I make over $85K a year.

And I'll repeat, the woman who was doing my job before me was from a temp agency. She only sold to customers who called in. She didn't pick up the phone and prospect. I wonder where I learned how to do that? Oh yea, it was the first job I got after college.

AND AGAIN, there were some people at that company too who didn't have college degrees. But they had experience. I myself would have never gotten that job if I didn't have a degree.

I also knew the owners daughter. She was getting her masters at Michigan State with my brother. Her father had this computer training company in the 90's. We sold programming, networking, office word, excel, powerpoint classes. I was in my 20's making $85K a year in the 90's. With healthcare and a 401K. No way I'd be making that if I didn't go to college. NO WAY.

And only 2% of murders in the USA are college educated. If you don't want to be murdered, get a degree. Only stupid people get murdered.

Holy shit! I didn't even put together the fact that you said Charlie Kirk didn't have a degree and I came back with 2% of murders in the USA are college educated.

Charlie is a perfect example. He got murdered and is uneducated. Statistically that makes sense.

Brian Thompson is a rare exception

Brian Thompson, the late CEO of UnitedHealthcare, graduated from the University of Iowa in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in accounting. He graduated with high honors (valedictorian) from the university.

Everyone knows someone who went to college and couldn’t get a job
They also know someone with a HS degree that is very successful.

But the facts are that as a whole, college graduates do better than HS graduates
HS graduates do better than HS dropouts

Interesting. Which technical / vocational school did you learn your virology from?
The one that gave your such insight into how mRNA vaccines work?
No need for college. Just google the subject. Easy peasy.

I'll be honest. I'm not that bright. At least not book smart. And I will admit I think a 4 year degree probably isn't the best way to train a great salesperson. But that's step one. Go get a degree. If you can't get a good degree in business or engineering maybe you just get a communication degree like me. Do you know what it takes to get an associates? General studies, math, English, a foreign language, science, political science, electives, etc. A well rounded list of courses to teach you a little bit of everything. Then you pick your major and minor. I barely got through the level 1 business classes so instead of a business major I just got the minor in business and majored in organizational communication. You learn all the interpersonal stuff you will have to deal with in corporate America.

It took a lot for me to get 120 credit hours. But that degree has opened a lot of doors and gotten me a lot of jobs. It got me started.

The best thing is it was only $5000 a year when I went to school. $7000 if you went to a top school like MSU.

A guy with a 100 iq is probably not going to be good at their job either even if they do manage to get through all the classs.

And besides, a guy with a 100 IQ probably won't get 120 credit hours.

Although I did take masters classes with a girl I'm sure was retarded. University of Phoenix. She was definitely challenged.

College grads do better, but is the nation better because of them? Wasn't it the 'best and brightest' that outsourced our manufacturing to China?

To me it's just more dumbing down America. When we were kids, our parents all wanted us to go to college. College has become too expensive. What is the Republican solution? Don't worry about it. Just go to trade school or plumbers school. Settle. Long before you know what you want to be, settle for being a blue collar person who will never make $100K.

Now I myself may never make $100K but I didn't decide that when I graduated high school.

You know what I never understood? Economics. They always talked about supply and demand. If too many people want something then the price goes up. But when people stop buying the price goes down. Has any college price gone down?

In-state tuition at public universities has dropped by about 4% over the last decade when accounting for inflation, according to data from College Board Research.

In state public universities are only $11,610 a year. That's worth it.

College grads do better, but is the nation better because of them? Wasn't it the 'best and brightest' that outsourced our manufacturing to China?
Well don't expect that to change. The rich people who run our largest corporations will continue to do that while they convince you not to send your kids to college so they can go to work for them cheap. They want the cheap labor.

Didn't you vote for Trump and the Corporations to run our country? Trump has a degree. His kids all have degrees.

Wasn't it the best and brightest who took us to war in Iran? So don't go to college because they are idiots?

You make a good point. The nation right now needs farm workers not college grads. Farmers say since you ran off all their workers they can't find any help. And that's affecting our prices.

The nation needs your kids to go work on farms not go to college. I agree. We also need more soldiers for the upcoming wars. And after the military we will have a nice farm job waiting for them.

It sucked for you maybe. Companies in CA were doing just fine. Lots of people made money in California then and now. You don't like it move to Texas. But you won't like it.

According to the 1970 U.S. Census, California's population was 19,953,134

40 million now. The population has doubled since then.

They complain in Florida too. Really, if you want to live in paradise it's going to cost you one way or the other.

“You could make the case that maybe we shouldn’t even be there at all, because we don’t need it. We have a lot of oil,” Trump said. “But we do it. It’s almost like we do it for habit.”

I can't imagine being a pawn for Trump to use.
I've been to Texas.

No thanks.

The biggest problem in CA was illegal immigration and the constant flooding of the job market with foreign workers.

I ETS'd a few years after the end of Vietnam and a lot of Vietnamese and Cambodians were brought to the US and given high paying jobs. But jobs were scarce for veterans.

The best job I got during this time was working in a Sheetmetal Shop for the Dept of the Navy at DPW for $7/hr. But it was a temporary position and I was unable to secure a permanent position. So I started going to school.

The standard of living in CA compared to other parts of the country was pretty bad. CA had great weather....but the middle-class suffered. Constant increases in utility costs and increasing home values drove up taxes and the cost of living.

CA is in much worse shape today then it was then, thanks to that idiot Newscum

Well the only other option is Florida and when I was there I saw that just like in California, 50% are living paycheck to paycheck and thinking about moving.

Funny because usually Republicans like you don't complain about the economy when a Republican is president. But I see you are only picking on California. Trust me dude, Trump is ******* the economy up everywhere. So strap in. And don't blame Newsom.

Or are you claiming that America is GA in every other state just not Cali?

You're just scared Gavin's going to win in 2028.
