A requirement to run for Vice President is eligibility to be president.

Techically, which is what the idea is floated is...

There is a difference between being "eligible" to be President and being "elected" to the Office of the President.

Article II lists the eligibility requirements to BE President which are:

• 35 years of age
• 14 years a resident
• Natuarl Born Citizen

Those are the qualifications to hold the office.

The 22nd Amendment says: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. "

It specificiallys says "office of the President" which, theoretically, does not preclude being elected or appointed to another office and then assusming the office of the President.

I say "elected or appointed" because the Office of the Vice President is elected. Get elected VP, President resigns, assume the office of the President. There is an even wackier theory that says the Speaker of the House (3rd in line for the Oval Office) doesn't even have to be elected to the House. The House can technically chose anyone they want as Speaker. So the even dumber theory is that the House choses Trump as Speaker - then BOTH the President and VP resign moving Trump back into the Oval Office.
