I would be shocked if we have any auto industry left by 2030 or 2032, 2040 seems a century away with the rapirnsifts in the world. The decline has been strong for decades, made far worse by our declining reputation and wagering on the worst nations instead of aligning with America.
China and Mexico stole our market share because the U.S learned so much more about our system than they could ever have known just 25 years prior. When you misrepresent your citizens using kids to target kids, you are eventually going to be exposed.
What is worse than being exposed and losing the most precious asset, your reputation of "values"? Not correcting the issue...
I understand why many on here dismiss what I and a couple of others say but G-d as my witness, there are exponentially more U.S agencies who care then all of the rest of the West combined. Civil liberties has value in America, defend it with your life.
If I were working in the Intel community in Canada, I would have driven home the necessity of protecting our market assess by lobbying the U.S to place values at the top, AND ensuring this was done via the police outfits in Canada.
We did neither and the light has been shined.

TORONTO – Canada’s auto industry, based largely in Ontario, could disappear by 2040 unless the country regains duty-free access to the U.S. market or finds other ways to keep the sector afloat, one of Canada’s biggest banks warns.
At an industry conference in Toronto focused on the auto sector’s future, RBC Thought Leadership managing director Jordan Brennan said industry leaders and governments must do what they can to avoid the worst-case scenario.
