Another "Good Guy" with a gun murders wife and children

Yet Another Man With a Gun Just Murdered His Wife and Children

According to NRA logic - he was a "good guy" right up until he slaughtered his family. Then he become a "bad guy" who should be restricted from purchasing guns in the future... But he is still able to purchase ammo for the guns he already owns.... I guess ammo to shoot his dead family some more.

In Saco, Maine on Saturday night, 33-year-old Joel Smith used a pump-action shotgun to kill his 35-year-old wife, Heather Smith, his 12-year-old stepson, and the couple's two biological children, a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, before turning the gun on himself. The horrific scene was discovered on Sunday morning after a concerned family friend called the apartment complex where the Smith family lived and asked a maintenance worker to check on them. In a statement to the media, a Maine State Police official called the mass shooting "one of the worst cases of domestic violence in Maine's history."

As we reported in the wake of a mass shooting in Texas earlier this month, domestic violence and guns are a frightening combination: A woman's chances of being killed by her abuser increase more than fivefold if he has access to a gun. And most fatal violence between intimate partners across the United States involves firearms. (Here are just a few examples from the past few months.)

Your penchant for mischaracterization and hyperbole borders on the idiotic.

For all of those who claim that gun laws don't work that chart proves that they do.

28 states with only one or no domestic violence gun law have by far the most homicides.

With as few as two such laws the incidence drops dramatically.

Big states like NY and CA have the lowest incidence because they have the most laws and they enforce them properly.

The facts speak for themselves that gun laws work.

And yes, I do support the 2nd Amendment but I also support the right of We the People to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That doesn't happen when your partner blows you away because there was a gun handy while you were having a domestic fight.

Right to life (right to defend unlawful taking of life and property) is what the Second Amendment protects.

Libtards are stupid and gullible, therefore they will be fooled by this same cherry picked statistic over and over.

Gun Homicide =/= Criminal Gun Homicide =/= Criminal Homicide (nonspecific)

Looks like another one of them tea bagging NRA responsible gun owners to me...

He killed the family because he realized he was gay.

Another idiotic attempt to paint everyone who owns a gun as a crazy killer.

Actually you just proved our claims right. "If we ban hand guns, that will solve everything"

Whoops... that was a shotgun. You leftists failed again. I especially love it when you leftists post the proof you are wrong, yourselves. Saves me the time to look up citations.

For all of those who claim that gun laws don't work that chart proves that they do.

It shows no such thing. It shows some association. It doesn't account for a host of other confounding variable.

Look at your chart. Both NY and CA have the same number of restrictions and there is a 20 percentage point gap between them.

California has the most restrictions and Nevada had none and the outcomes are identical.

All we see is a weak association. Not proof of cause.

28 states with only one or no domestic violence gun law have by far the most homicides.

Those homicides are likely clustered in black households.

Look at the predictors of firearm homicide. Rates of gun ownership isn't that great a predictor of firearm homicide:

Now pay attention because I'm going to construct a parallel argument to the one that you're making. You argue that there is something wrong with good guys having access to firearms and that they should have their rights taken away from them simply because some OTHER good guys turn into bad guys.

No dumbshit.

That's not what I'm saying at all.

I'm arguing that gun laws need to be more strict with regard to private sales, gun shows, and garage sales, on line -- all the entry points to the black market.

I'm arguing that neighbors should have been able to call in a complaint on this guy and get his gun temporarily removed from the home if deputies find the complaint justified (threats, erratic behavior)

I'm arguing that when someone is put on meds for a serious psych disorder or issued a restraining order, deputies show up and take away all his guns. If he later tries to purchase a gun, he goes to jail.

I'm arguing that people on the NICS list should not even be able to walk into a gun store or sporting goods store without setting off an alarm.

If you're on the NICS list and you're at a gun show, you should be a like a child molester hanging around a school. Arrest that ****** on sight.

You dry up the black/grey market - it's simple economics, drive up the price of street guns.

Making private sales to strangers w/o a check a felony.

Prove that this guy got the shotgun through one of those avenues, and not from a dealer, and you might be able to make that point make sense. I doubt it, but I would be willing to listen. Right now all you know is that the shotgun was in his hands, no how it got there, so you have absolutely no point to make. Especially when you consider that Maine has relatively strict gun laws in comparison to states like Texas.

All this proves is you can't read charts. If the law actually worked the way you claimed there wouldn't be a large cluster of states with 4 laws concerning firearms in domestic violence above that line.

I've owned guns since I was 12 and grew up around them. Never really paid any attention to gun laws because I was trained to respect guns; use them safely; and only use one in self defense if and when my life was truly threatened. In all that time I've never killed a wife, a family, a friend, an enemy, or any other category of human being.

Laws don't stop folks from being idiots. And punishing law-abiding gun owners won't stop idiots from being idiots either.

DC and chicago have the most restrictive gun laws in the country and have the highest rates of gun violence. Tell me how gun laws work. Show me one case where adding a new gun law has reduced gun violence .

Nuts are everywhere and many of them have guns.

HAZNUTS wants us all to have no guns. This is his liberal dream

It's just like that girl who was saying we need more gun control laws, because he cousin who went in to rob a store, was shot by a conceal and carry customer.

Hazlnut would rather the customer been shot and robbed. Leftist are actually truly evil people. They are just flat out evil people.

Another "good guy" meat lover with a stick kills wife for making the wrong meal:

NY man kills his wife for cooking the wrong dinner | Allen B. West - AllenBWest.com

According to the New York Post, a Pakistani immigrant beat his wife to death in their Brooklyn home after she made the mistake of cooking him lentils for dinner instead of the hearty meal of goat meat that he craved, according to court papers. Noor Hussain, 75, was so outraged over the vegetarian fare that he pummeled his wife, Nazar Hussain, 66, with a stick until she was a “bloody mess,” according to prosecutors and court papers.
Damn it. When, oh when are we going to wake up to the ravages of sticks? Please, please, please contact your Senators and Reps and demand that sticks be banned once and for all. For the sake of our children and their children after them. I mean, who really needs a stick? They're evil, monstrous devices.

JUST SAY NO TO STICKS!!
