Lots of strawmen. People can’t avoid taxes. You’re probably only referring to income tax, which is probably intentionally narrow because if you expand to all taxes, your claim of “people not paying” is stupid. People pay taxes. I don’t know how anyone could avoid them.We have plenty of people not paying, and thus having no skin in the game, and thus being hypocrites when they ask others to pay more.
A 70% tax on anything is punishing success, why work so hard when government is going to take most of the benefits?
Is Biden raising taxes to 70%? No? Then shut up.
And this wasn’t about the wisdom of it, it was to show you that you’re out of touch.
It is easy to avoid paying taxes.
For example, you can create lots of fake corporations and pay out any income you make to them.
Then each one has allowances for their cost of doing business, that collectively can use up all the profit and leave nothing to be taxed.
Another old time method is to put all your relatives on the payroll so that people who normally would not be making an income, paying taxes, or using up their personal exemptions, can be used to whittle down your income to an untaxable amount.
Then what's the point of increasing the taxes when people just avoid them?
That is why I consider a flat tax with only a single flat exemption per person and household.
