A massive polar low is wreaking destruction on Alaska... And it's headed to the US...

Wind patterns show this will descend on Canada and the Western US in the coming days.

This is about as seasonal as seasonal can be ... it's Alaska ... they have bad weather there ... they haven't had a blizzard yet? ... c'mon, it's the middle of September for Alaska to not have any snowstorms yet ... the higher elevations have had snow here in Oregon already ... or maybe that's snow left over from last year ...

Be afraid ... normal weather ...

We are having an early fall. The weather, the light gives that indication. We will have an early winter. I don't have a feel about the intensity of it yet though.

Remints of the Typhoon in yellow. First low in red with cold air.

They have quite a bit of snow at elevation. it's the shorelines that are getting battered by wind and water. Once the cold settles in tonight it might just be a major snow event from the Typhoon remnants. That should be pounding them for the next couple of days. What concerns me more is the next polar low is already on its way out of Siberia and that air mass is about 20 deg F cooler than the present air mass.

They will be getting lots of snow the next few weeks. IF the polar jet remains strong and doesn't move much, the western US is going to get it too... The models show it not moving much.

Not as bad as Oct 12th, 1962 ... by gum ... Morris Street Bridge in Portland took a 116 mph gust that day ... remnants of Typhoon Freda ... you kids today don't know the meaning of the word "wind storm" ...
