An Overly Politically Correct America

The Redskins have a right to use an offensive nickname

Others, including President Obama and Bob Costas wave a right to say they think the name should be changed

Eventually, the Redskins will lose

Yes, when it comes down to liberal PC, freedom of speech always takes it in the shorts.
Well, not this time.
In order for this to go down as desired by you limp wristed perpetually offended white people, you'd have to mandate elimination any and all references to Native Americans.
That means, all county state and city subdivisions. All business entities, etc.
Talk the talk. Walk the walk.
Let us know how that works out for ya.

You forgot to add "Because the king of the world said so!"

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

i read somewhere that Oklahoma means red people in choctaw. Thats sounds like aslur to me Should the state have to change its name? Maybe to throw a bone (no pun intended but I'll take it) to gay rights they could call it Oklahomo?

Now whos complaining about political correctness?

Either way Hail to the Skins!

As most sports fans know, there is a controversy brewing between the Oneida Indian Nation and the Washington Redskins over their usage of the term "redskin" which Indian Nation alleges to be a racial slur. The Washington Redskins have been in existence as a football club since 1932, for 81 years. The team had gone on with no major legal conflict with any Indian Nation until 1992

Like the US courts would ever listen to savages, stupid drunk redmen, what do they know.

I haven't rooted for them since The Over The Hill Gang was there.

If you would not call it to someone's face...it's probably inappropriate as the name of a sporting team.

Would you call someone a pirate to their face?
A manatee?
A blue jay?
A cardinal?

idk I just kind of think political correctness is a bother

besides if native americans don't think redskin is racist why does it matter?

Well at least we're not all as whacked as Britain.

They actually had a war of words going on over whether or not the new 5 pound note should have Winston Churchill's portrait on it for fear of offending Germans.

Not kidding. You can't let progressive assholes drive the PC agenda or soon enough we will be at that ludicrous point.

Not a Washington DC NFL football fan....I root for the time just to the North. I've never liked Dan Snyder as an owner. That said, Dan Snyder made a sizeable investment to purchase the team that had 62 years of brand equity built around the team nickname not only by previous owners, but by the NFL itself as it does for any teams, past, present, and future. I also think of Washington celebrities like Colin Powell, Marion Barry, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, and many media types who cheered the team proud as their own. If Dan Snyder is forced to change the name, be it political or legal, then he is in a position to be indemnified by the league as he will be forced to build brand awareness around a new name against his will. If it is market driven, then he has no case for indemnification.

So our entire society has to base its language on the people who are the most easily offended? Bullshit.

I'm offended by Dr Who pictures. Take down your Avatar NOW or you are being insensitive.

Because you know you'll never be that cool?

You know what's hilarious. It's the reaction of you and Bi-Polar Boy that a rich person might have to actually do something he doesn't want to do because the little people demand it.

If the little people want the name of the team changed, they can buy the team and change it. People get to do what they want with their property. That's one of the advantages of owning something.

NOt really. Ownership is based on community tolerence.

End the special tax subsidies they get, charge them for the police and emergency services they use, you'll be AMAZED how fast they see the light of racial sensitivity.

They were probably more worried about offending India, as Churchill is considered a bastard in that country.

The financial fallout would be astronomical.

Of all the shit going on. .this is what people are fretting about... the name of a football team?

******* pansies.

I have stated this numerous times. Liberals go through their looking for things with which to bother themselves.
These are the same people who will step over a homeless guy who is laying in his own piss to throw a jar full of pig's blood on a woman because she is wearing a fur coat.

Nice try. No. It isn't.
I will give an example. You are offended by large expensive homes. They are unaffected by your whining.

Until angry mobs get sick of the people who live in them and burn them to the ground.

Mob rule versus property rights and you're cool with mob rule?

**** that.
