Again, what is the Purpose of the Second Amendment

“Now I wanted to say something about the fact that we have lived over these last two or three summers with agony and we have seen our cities going up in flames. And I would be the first to say that I am still committed to militant, powerful, massive, non¬-violence as the most potent weapon in grappling with the problem from a direct action point of view. I’m absolutely convinced that a riot merely intensifies the fears of the white community while relieving the guilt. And I feel that we must always work with an effective, powerful weapon and method that brings about tangible results. But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society.

These words are from a speech by Martin Luther King given on March 14, 1968. It was titled, “The Other America.”

The people did not vote for the government to snatch Fulbright scholars who have permission to enter the US and attend our universities off the streets nd put them in jails. The people did not vote for the government to snatch legally protected immigrants who had not attained citizenship yet off the streets and lie about them being in gangs. The people didn't vote for US citizens to be snatched off the streets because they're Hispanic. The people did not vote for the government to deport gravely ill children to possible death. The people didn't vote for the government to rough up mayors and members of both houses of Congress. The people didn't vote for a president who refuses to follow the decisions of the court unless it favors him. The government isn't listening to the people.

"These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard." - Martin Luther King, March 14, 1968.

Second Amendment

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The security of our free state is in jeopardy right now. If this is not the time to consider the Second Amendment, then what is the real purpose of this Amendment?

Good question. I would say fornicate about and henceforth ye shall discover the purpose of the Second Amendment.

I was watching a few rat and pigeon shooting videos on YouTube, trying to keep vermin down on farms. Then half through one of those videos, it cut over to a guy to do a talk about a freelance writer. On social media he said he was coming out of a dark patch in his life and he's a lot better etc.. and recovering. He said the police landed and confiscated his shotguns and rifles. He'll have to go through a gun suitability review to see if he gets the guns back. Just a bit different to the US system!!

I'll see if it's in my YouTube history.

Edit - found the video goto 11:55 -

Your circumstances? LOL! You support Trump. You ramble on about Western civilization. Therefore, you are a white racist. The last thing you could handle is being black and facing what we do.

We aren't facing imminent death, and Trump isn't the savior. So like I will continue to say to you until you move down here and live with the policies you want us to live under, STFU because you don't live here but you support policies that will destroy this country.
Only when you riot and burn. Just how far do you have to go to reach a 7/11?

I tried to be a good global citizens, answered your question with a statement and you attack me like a rabid dog. Wow, I would hate to see you try and deal with my circumstances, you would have folded or gone postal long ago.
You have to remember, or weren't aware, but IM2 and C Clayton Jones, being one and the same, is a Troll. No matter a person's stance on any topic, his mission, is to call you a racist and disagree with whatever topic it is.

2A/ RTKBA is NOT about Hunting or Trap & Skeet or Collecting or 3 Gun or Protecting yourself or your property

Why do we need to question the wisdom of the founding Fathers when it comes to the miracle of the Constitution? The 2nd Amendment was upheld in a hundred decisions since then. Let it go.

The Second Amendment’s core job is to keep the people themselves armed and available for defense—of the nation, their states, and their own homes—so that no standing army or government can rule without their consent.

  • James Madison called an armed citizen-militia “the best security of a free State” (Federalist 46) avalon.law.yale.edu, and the Supreme Court in Heller confirmed that this right belongs to individuals for traditionally lawful purposes such as self-defense supreme.justia.com. Early state constitutions echoed the same idea, linking an armed populace to freedom from tyranny constitution.congress.gov.

So while the amendment’s prefatory clause speaks of a “well-regulated militia,” the operative clause—“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”—protects citizens directly. That means:

  • Militia function: citizens must be able to muster if needed against invasion or domestic oppression.
  • Individual function: the same arms also serve everyday self-defense.

TL;DR: Any reading that reduces the amendment to today’s National Guard (or, conversely, to hunting alone) misses half the story. It was drafted to ensure a broad, armed citizenry capable of defending both personal safety and republican liberty.

Yay for the Gestapo! $45 billion increase for ICE police state!
CATO says 25% of our budget now spent on border horseshit!
Fascism brought to you by CoreCivic & Geo Group!

Actually it was meant for a standing Army because there was no military in 1776. But the point here is that we have a tyrannical government in power right now. Therefore, it's time to think about the Second Amendment.

But instead your resistance is a message board. Independence Day you are not.

you're right

it needs to be rewritten, and the part about the militia removed.

we have Army, Navy, Air Farce, Coast Guard, and National Guard.

just leave the part about the Right of the people to keep and bear arms in place.

You bring up an important concern, but I’d like to clarify a common misconception: the Second Amendment wasn’t written to establish or empower a standing army—quite the opposite. At the time of its drafting, the Founders were highly wary of standing armies, viewing them as tools of potential tyranny. That’s why the emphasis is on “a well regulated Militia” and “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms.”

The phrase “being necessary to the security of a free State” refers to the security of individual states, not the federal government. The amendment was designed to preserve a decentralized means of defense, where citizens could organize for the protection of their communities and liberties without being dependent on or subject to a centralized military force.

James Madison and others saw citizen militias as the best safeguard against tyranny, not standing armies. That’s also reflected in early state constitutions and later affirmed by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, which recognized an individual’s right to possess firearms for traditionally lawful purposes, including self-defense.

So when we talk about modern threats to liberty, it's all the more important to understand what the Founders were really trying to prevent—and how.

That would mean the National Guard. The simple fact is they were talking about a trained military. But the reality of this day is that we have a tyrannical government in power, and it must be stopped.

We ( California State Militia ) trained weekly and had Monthly FTX events that could last 3 Days At our peak 2011-2015 our Infantrymen were as squared away as any California National Guard Infantrymen in our region .
