On May 14, 2026, just months before we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA, the Associated Press floated the idea of gun control for the exact type black powder muskets that were used in the American Revolution.
The AP used an X post to say, “A musket from 1776 can fire a lead ball at a velocity of around 1,000 feet per second.”
They added, “Imagine what that can do to a human body. Yet under federal and most state laws, it’s exempt from gun regulations. Many antique or replica guns aren’t considered firearms and even convicted felons can own them.”
They embedded a video of firearms historian Ashley Hlebinsky in their post where she explained that muskets from 1776 “are actually, technically, in terms of legal standards in the federal government, not legally a firearm. They are classified as an antique.”
Commentary:
If this were the Bee, I'd be laughing my socks off. This is a serious posting by some idiot at the Associated Press.
Qualification to be an AP reporter: Know the home keys.
Well, AP just blew up the longstanding silly gun grabber arguments that "The Second Amendment was written for muzzle-loading single shot firearms; the Founders would never have allowed civilians to own modern semiautomatic cartridge rifles and pistols capable of firing several rounds in a minute!"
It's not about crime and criminals, never was, it's entirely about disarming the American citizen making them helpless against not only government goons but criminals, Lefty lynch mobs and gang-bangers they allow to run amuck!
Remember how Leftists and Democrats wanted to ban handguns only. Then they wanted to ban “assault” rifles only. Now this. The slippery slope is real.
How many crimes are being committed these days with such weapons? Solving a problem that doesn’t exist is just a waste of everyone’s time and money, in addition to being an affront to Second Amendment rights.
As a former hunter in my younger years, I used a Traditions muzzle loading .45 Cal black powder rifle during hunting season. Muzzle loader rifles are heavy, and you better make that first and only shot hits the target.
It certainly honed my hunting skills.
Now to muskets,
First; Muskets are not accurate passed 50 yards.
Second: It takes more than one minute for and experienced person to reload.
Third; Even Pyrodex makes a lot of smoke.
Commentary:
They need to include slings with rocks. Rocks can attain the speed of 134mph. Ancient armies used people with slings and spears as initial fighters and killed people with the slings. Let's face it. Everything you use to harm or kill someone is an "assault" weapon.
They also need to ban hammers, especially those scary black assault claw hammers.
Heck, let's just add others to the list. Assault crossbows. Assault slingshots. Assault steak and carving knives. Assault baseball bats. Assault steel toed boots. Pillows because of smothering people. Tire irons. Crowbars.
Lead pipe, candlestick holder, rope, wrench, screwdriver used by Colonel Mustard in the conservatory.
The list is endless. A professional soldier in the Continental Army with a musket can load a musket three times and fire in one minute. Good luck finding criminals that are proficient with black powder muskets.
The main aim of the leftists (Democrats) are to disarm the entire public so that when in power they can end Democracy by using authoritarian/tyrannical methods, scrapping the Constitution, and crushing opposition. Once opposition parties are dealt with, Democracy ends.
