The first such significant expansion took place in Assyria, probably even before the emergence of the religion of the witnesses, but it was in the interests of agricultural colonization. Perhaps there was continuity with the chthonic cults of the old Europe. Apparently, the first who made a significant religious expansion on this model was Alexander the Great, then the Sassanids did it in Persia.

Before that, something similar was carried out by the Achaemenids in their satrapies, but they tried to separate the law from religion, and were liberal in relation to local cultures. It was a different type of empire, not a priestly one.

Until 1985, Israel was a socialist economy with all the anomalies this entailed. Its transition to capitalism was a success by most measures but it also came with side effects that we haven’t solved to this day – wider social gaps, more poverty and more concerns about social justice.

Israel was born as a socialist state, with its kibbutzim, cooperatives and deep government involvement in all aspects of daily life, but it would not have survived without the surgery done in 1985. The future belonged to those with a capitalist soul – the entrepreneur, the financiers and industrialists. At least the Jews know how to do all this well.
