It just does not make sense to give Iran $400M after all these years of sanctions going back to 1979.

This payment was a huge mistake by BHO and Kerry. They should have sent a Marine Expeditionary Force instead. Sure, it would have cost more than $400M but then at least Iran would not have got to keep the money.

His own DOJ advised against it. I did read in Fortune Magazine that there was a law suit working its way through some sort of international court. It is said that the obama administration was worried that they would be awarded billions not millions so they settled. Which sounds fine and dandy.

But, why on the same day, doesn't make sense.

The Iranians who they tell us to trust say it was ransom. The Iranians already knew they were going to get the money, the only question was how much more.

Are we really obligated to some sort of international court?

The DOJ told them not to do it the same day it would look badly, the Kenyan knew he didn't need to care and I will bet he is right.

Iraq paid the US for goods back when the Shah was in power. When they captured our embassy personal, and then Reagan gave them guns for those hostages, that was paying ransom since the guns were ours.

But the original money wasn't ever ours. We couldn't keep it forever according to international law. So we swapped their property for our people. Their property being their money.
