Not expanding due to tectonics
The Arctic Ocean is not expanding due to tectonics. The expansion of the Atlantic Ocean is caused by the movement of tectonic plates, which are pushing the North and South American continents further away from Europe and Africa. This process is not related to the Arctic Ocean.

There is a natural variation in the amount of ice from year to year. However, the trend from the time of the first satellite observations in 1979 is rapid enough downward that we will see some years when in September the ice will effectively be gone, less than 500,000 square miles.

Summer ice is still plentiful and has continued to mock numerous no summer ice predictions that were supposed to happen by year 2018 here we are 7 years past the last public prediction by Dr Wadhams made.
