There is a massive difference between the World Cup in men's soccer and the same in women's soccer. These American women in soccer are the luckiest people in history. Like winning a lottery level. World competition in women's soccer was archaic when American women soccer was promoted as compared to men's soccer. In affect it is like in baseball that they are comparable to a low-level Single A compared to others team that has multiple levels before you get to the major league show. For many years in the last quarter century only a few national teams have competed closely to the American women, and they have choked as they should be totally dominant.

For what it's worth: in the off season, my high school team used to scrimmage regularly with the local Big Ten women's team, often with guys who would be subs in a real game (myself included) - we crushed them......every time.
