Press Releases | News from EPI: EPI study finds, Wisconsin public-sector workers under-compensated

A new Economic Policy Institute study released this week finds that full-time state and local government employees in Wisconsin are undercompensated by 8.2%, when compared to otherwise similar private-sector workers. By using a comprehensive database that is updated monthly by the U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics, the study provides an accurate comparison of public- and private-sector compensation in Wisconsin.

The analysis, Are Wisconsin Public Employees Over-compensated? by Labor and Employment Relations Professor Jeffrey Keefe of Rutgers University, controls for education, experience, hours of work, organizational size, gender, race, ethnicity, experience, citizenship and disability. The study uses data collected primarily from the National Compensation Survey, and in accordance with standard survey practice, focuses on year-round, full-time public and private-sector employees.

So hes cutting the wages of people who are already behind the private sector.

The right wants government dead folks.

They are trying to kill it from inside.

They want it to fail.

Ask Grover Norquist what their real aim is.

The leadership of the right wants to kill the governmnet of this country.

They want to replace it with a government run by them that pushes the American income down to equal the rest of the worlds.

Its how they get you into the new world order plan where the Corps can play American workers just like they play the ones in any thrid world country.

You help them by supporting insane things like stripping workers of bargaining rights and screaming about unions.

Your hysteria is showing, again.

As it should be. Most (if not all) government jobs should pay below the private-sector.

If that's the goal then it looks like Obama is helping.

What the hell does this crap have to do with comparing wages?
How about just showing their pay, and compensation packages and how much, if any, they pay for their health insurance and pensions?

Wisconsin public versus private employee costs: Why compare apples to oranges?

we find that Wisconsin public employees earn 4.8% less in total compensation than comparable private sector workers. The comparisons—controlling for education, experience, hours of work, organizational size, gender, race, ethnicity, citizenship, and disability—demonstrate that full-time state and local public employees earn lower wages and receive less in total compensation (including all benefits) than comparable private sector employees.

Why pay public employees less?

Several reasons: It's extremely difficult to fire a public employee, the benefits are usually much, much better, and though many government jobs are necessary, the private sector has to pay for them. Other reasons: public employees are typically not as efficient as private-sector employees, they usually work less hours, etc.

If public employees got the same or more pay as private-sector employees, why work for the private sector? If we all worked for the government, the country would fall (kind of like it's doing now). Yet another reason to keep government as small and efficient as possible.

Go ask why all your reps go private sector after serving.

If what you claim was true they would not go to the private sector

crying.gif

My heard bleeds for the widdle tax leeches.
Not
Let them go out and do productive jobs.

There you have it.

Working for your government is bad and you sholuld be punished if you do.

Why do you hate the government your founders knew would be the best government in the world.

 Politicians are a different beast entirely. Your thread is about public sector workers.

Truthmatters likes to compare apples to organutans but dislikes others comparing apples to oranges.... at least we compare fruit to fruit. :eusa_angel:

Good

Cut government by 90%

Look, I know the vast majority of government workers couldn't hold a job in the real world, but maybe they can be retrained to be useful.

For the most part, government work is nothing more than welfare.
