The new Pope is certainly making a reputation for himself. After slamming the system, capitalism, that has done more to lift people out of poverty in 200 years than the Church has done in 2000 he has gone on and coddled Castro, an avowed communist, and now Abbas, a known terrorist.
Is the Pope some kind of "Manchurian candidate" of the Left, intent on bringing down the Church? I know JPII is rolling in his grave with this one.

Um you do realize the Pope is a head of state position right? In addition to the head of a religion stuff, where the Pope lives is its own country. Kinda hard to extricate the Papacy from political affairs when the whole job description is about politicing.

The Catholic Church is a highly robust institution. It would take a lot more than any single Pope to destroy it, or even cause it to "crash and burn" (whatever that means). During the Napoleonic Wars, the Swiss would often hire out as Mercenaries to either side.

I mean, so incredibly badass and so feared that one of the agreements in the treaty to end the Wars was that the Swiss could not take up arms anywhere in the world under any circumstances other than on their own soil or in the Vatican and that every nation would respect Swiss Neutrality. All of the Laws of the Western World are based on Judeo-Christian morals. The Ten Commandments is what we base our laws on to this day.
