The ideological chasm between their "progressives" and the less loony party members may just cause those whose candidate isn't nominated to "hold their nose" in 2020 or sit it out as so many did in 2016.

OTOH some now view the divide as unbridgeable and permanent which may lead to multiple 3rd party (D) presidential candidates and even a #Walkaway led by one or more strong centrists (like Tulsi Gabbard) which could attract many centrists and even lead to the formation of a viable and competitive 3rd Party.

This week Gabbard announced she will not seek reelection to congress in order to focus on her presidential election campaign and she raised concerns about the impeachment process's lack of transparency, suggesting it is being run in a partisan way.

That has the sound of one who no longer wants to be associated with the lunacy of the "new & improved" Democrat Socialist Party.

Will Bernie Sanders Split the Democratic Party in 2020?

Will the Democratic Party split?

How exactly can you post article titles with a proper name, and then STILL get that name wrong in your thread title?

And by the way, a third party candidate by definition cannot be a (D). You gotta pick one or t'other.

Would hardly matter if there was one anyway (and there are, and it doesn't). The Republicrat/Demoblican Collective Party has a monopoly on the system and will not abide interlopers. That's why they assumed a stronghold on Presidential debates, which at one time was under the purview of the nonpartisan League of Women Voters. Now that the Duopoly sets the rules, they can dick-tate who doesn't get in to them, and who doesn't get into the news. And with the corrupt system of the WTA/EC, which racketeers the electorate into a false choice of "two" Tweedles, Dum and Dee, ain't no 3P ever going to break through that. The system itself is rotten and antidemocratic via its own controlling exclusion.

No, Trump is far more potent uniter of the opposition then any of its internal disagreements.

Had run-of-the-mill corporate democrats not made a habit of folding up under pressure every time America needed them to stand firm there would not be a divide. The split will be easy to heal if the moderates just quit being cowards and lead.

Typical Pogo non-response.

And by the way, it would be disenfranchised Dems who would lead the exodus from the "new & improved" Democrat Socialist Party but they would be joined in coming years by independents and even some Repubs. As always your knee-jerk retort misses the mark by a mile.

Open borders, gun-confiscation, abortion, socialism, and impeachment-in-lieu-of-election-victories not only will not win in 2020, they will drive millions of Americans away from the Dems.

Typical ignorance addressing zero of the points made.

Yes, after the election they'll all split for Cancun. Politically there is nothing new about factions of the party that lost going through the usual power struggle for top dog position.

This is true yet almost all of the Democrat ‘20 Candidates are taking these extreme positions with the exception of Tulsi Gabbard and she is being smeared as a Russian asset.

Only on sites like this, which is meaningless.

Now I'd like to turn it over to Pothead who will demonstrate why it's meaningless.

Oh and for those of you who don't know, the reason he's "Pothead" has nothing to do with cannabis -- it's because he thinks anybody who differs from his fascistic opinion is Pol Pot.

A couple of years back I wondered, but I don't think so. The democrats are the party of Stalin. There are no moderates in the party. The agenda of the party is Communism, that is at every level.

They'd better do something because the democratic party today has gone uttery insane and is norhing like it once was. Anyone with any brains has already left leaving only the lunatics behind.

It is certainly led by hysterical, unhinged lunatics.

I haven't seen any effort at all to court the Blue Dog Democrats. I've seen quite the opposite. It has been a big F U, we are all about lesbians and skin color.

I think the democrat party will just go away then the Republican party will split into the Rino Republicans and the Trump Republicans. The rinos are what the dems used to be anyway.

You could be correct. It would be nice if they spit at the same time however. On the right, I would rather vote in a conservative than a McCain any day of the week. Both parties are splitting apart, so I guess it's a matter of which one does first. It won't happen by the parities, it will happen by the voters.

We need a conservative party, and they need a Socialist/ Communist party.
