Two things about the primary when voters obviously overwhelmingly wanted Trump:
1. you aren't going to win if you present yourself as being the anti-Trump
2. if you present yourself as a clone of Trump, voters think to themselves, "Why should I vote for a clone of Trump when I can just vote for the real Trump"?
I'm not actually a full fledged badge wearing Trump supporter but I am a full fledged badge wearing Trump defender. What the left has been doing to him is nothing short of us being in Putin's Russia. It is obvious that Republican voters want Trump so they don't want the anti-Trump and they don't want a Trump clone. While I would have personally hoped for someone else, I believe in democracy and that voters should be able to vote for who they want and that seems to be Trump. If it is a contest of Biden vs Trump and the election is all about saving democracy (as Biden is trying to frame it to be), then Trump is the obvious choice. We need to vote out Putin's Russia and socialism.So in other words: It was inevitable Trump would be the candidate.
