Wife’s cancer prompts man to enlist

He's in the Army now - JSOnline

So I'm sitting here in the computer lab, looking at today's news when I see this news article. It will be my only post here today, but I felt it needed to be shared.

We have long been past this point but now more than ever this drives reality home. The fact that people have to enlist so their spouses can have coverage for cancer is a sad thing. I'm sure the man loves his country.

A daughter will now be without her father over the next four years because of this. Sure, when people join the Military this happens all the time, however there is a difference between this and wanting to from the bottom of your heart.

This is only another example of why we need real change in Health Care in this country. Not in 2013, not in 2012, not next year, not next week, but now. Time is of the essence. I could only wish that those in Washington would see that. Otherwise, people die daily when their lives could of been saved if not for the playing of politics.

well hes got his free health care now

I just have one question; where were the Republicans on healthcare when they were in control of the White House and Congress? There is no doubt that there are some very good ideas for healthcare from the Republican side. Rand Paul has some great ideas. But where were they when they had the opportunity to do something?

I understand all the bitching about the current healthcare proposals, but God Damnit, where were the Republicans when they could have done something positive? They dropped the ball and left it up to the Dems to come up with something. Now they bitch.

While I usually don't agree with the path of the Dems, I have to admit, they are the ones who at least get things moving. Republicans have one answer to everything; cut taxes. That is the only thing they ever run on. Well, it ain't working anymore. Maybe us Republicans should start trying to actually solve problems rather than just crying about what the Dems are trying to do.
I have a question too: WHy didn't the Dums mention this when they went to retake the Congress in '06? I didnt hear a peep about health care reform, even though they could have passed it then.
So now the GOP has a health care plan, one that is actually workable, that a majority of Americans support, and wont bankrupt the country--all things Obama says he wants.
Where is the Democratic support for this plan? WHy aren't Democrats rallying around this? Why aren't they being bipartisan, like they always say they are? Why are teh Democrats blocking this great plan? WHy are they lying every single day about the effects of their stupid bloated socialist medical plan?
And instead of blaming the GOP, why dont the Democrats just pass the damn thing? They don't need a single GOP vote to pass (and they can count on Snowe). So why all the delay? If it's that important, just pass it.

The Dems are having a bitch of a time getting their own caucus in line and passing a health care bill right now with a supermajority and you are wondering why they didn't pass a bill in 2006?

lol

They didnt pass a bill because there was no momentum for one and they remembered what happened when Clinton tried to sneak Hillarycare through. That didnt mean they couldn't have brought the issue up if they thought it was of vital national importance.
Of course they dont think that. They think it's a way to get a huge entitlement going so they can go back and say "see what we did for you! Elect us again!"

Goes to show you we don't need Obamacare. If people want it that bad, just join the military and EARN it.

What makes you say his daughter will be "without her father over the next four years"? That is the most rediculous statement I've seen in a while. Shows how ignorant you are. Military families do live together at their home station you know. Sure he'll probably get deployed but that doesn't mean he'll never see his kids. If he has a problem with that, he shouldn't join. If you have a problem with it, take it up with Obama he is the one sending troops to war.

SEC. 802. ESTABLISHMENT OF PERFORMANCE-BASED QUALITY MEASURES.

Not later than January 1, 2010, the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall submit to Congress a proposal for a formalized process for the development of performance-based quality measures that could be applied to physicians' services under the Medicare program. AMA - PCPI Measures

That's exactly what Betsy "Death Panels" McCaughey brayed about as proof that the Dems' bill (HR3200) would 'incentivize' providers to push their older patients into making living wills that forgo life-sustaining treatment and procedures, and to ignore any decision to reverse DNR status.

where do you find all that in HR3400?
Search Results - THOMAS (Library of Congress)

Sometimes those links to thomas.loc.gov don't work. If it doesn't, google hr 3400 and click on the thomas link, then text of legislation, then scroll down to title viii.

'Course it doesn't mean what she claimed in this bill any more than it did in 3200.

His LOYALTY? He had no intention of joining the military, and simply did force someone to give him something. That is NOT a reason to join.

Hey. Give it time . It'll go back to the old daze of " join or go to jail'
MANY of the idiots that volunteered for Nam went to avoid jail.
Why not join to avoid giving a grand a month to an insurance mafia ?

It's the army, for Christ's sake. It's not like he sold his kidney on the black market for the money. Put the frigging violin away.

This is the basic, fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives. YOU see "Ohmigod, it's so terrible that bad things happen and people have to deal with them, we need to create a world where the benevolent government ensures that life is always perfect and nothing bad ever happens to anyone". I see "Thank God that man had the strength and physical health to be able to provide for his family during the rough times, what an incredible husband, father, and human being he is, what an amazing example of manhood and marriage and devotion his daughter is going to have to measure all other men in her life against."

The article I read about these people said that they knew both sides of the aisle would love to use them as talking points, and that they weren't interested in being political footballs. Why don't you get off your bleeding heart soapbox and respect their wishes, if not their strength and courage?

Jobless? Join the Military
Economy fueled recruiting gains in FY09
Link
Excerpt:
The military met or exceeded both their numeric and quality recruiting goals during fiscal 2009 for the first time in the 36-year history of the all-volunteer force, the Pentagon’s top military personnel policy official said Tuesday. In addition, retention was deemed “successful” in all the services, the Pentagon said in a press release. A weak economy and increased spending on recruiting were the primary reasons for the recruiting successes. “The investment per accession we were able to deliver this year — because we hadn’t built in the unemployment [rate], as it turned out ... left us with more dollars per recruit than proved to be minimally necessary, given the level of unemployment,” said Bill Carr. The seasonally adjusted U.S. unemployment rate for September stood at 9.8 percent; another 214,000 Americans lost their jobs that month,

Under Clinton, we had the opposite problem.
The poor soldiers that were making $18K in the military found out they could make $100K as civilians. So they left and the GOP said "Clinton is hurting our military."
Then military thrives after Bush crashes the economy.

It's Jake, King of the Unsubstantiated Statement.

Of course the GOP has a plan. Conservatives have many ideas, all of them proven and workable.
Obamacare would likely have made this woman wait for 6 months before getting proper diagnostic testing.

I just have one question; where were the Republicans on healthcare when they were in control of the White House and Congress? There is no doubt that there are some very good ideas for healthcare from the Republican side. Rand Paul has some great ideas. But where were they when they had the opportunity to do something?

As I recall, they NEVER "had the chance to do something about it", because they never had enough of a majority to bypass the Democrats, who staunchly stood in the way of everything that was proposed. You can say you didn't like their ideas and that you didn't agree with them, but you can't say they didn't propose any.

I'd say it was a fine reason to join. He joined out of love for his wife.

We used to respect and admire men who stepped up to the plate and cared for and protected their families. Now we whine about how terrible it is that they have to.

Pfft. Yeah, it's really "free" when you have to pay the hard work and physical effort of four years in the army. Hell, that's practically welfare, ain't it?

Yea, he put his own life in danger for the "chance" to save his wife's life. To a Repuglican who would obviously question the man's loyalty, they figure he is one messed up dude.

Not "we". That has to be a Republican. I can't imagine a Democrat feeling that way.

No real American would condemn this man for his choice. Any who does so is morally challenged.

Hey, there are 'tards on YOUR side of the aisle around here wondering why Republicans didn't do anything about health care when THEY had control of Congress, and they never had anything close to a supermajority.

Oh, right, it's the REPUBLICANS who are questioning the man's loyalty and motivations and saying how messed up he is. :eusa_liar:

Your juvenile little attempt at insulting people via misspelling the party name would be a trifle more effective - it's not ever going to be very effective - if your posts weren't so damned imbecilic that it just looks like you don't know how to spell.
