Why Land of the Free is so conflicted on health care..

I don't even think its robbery. Just the way it is. All this new expensive technology needs paid for, and everyone wants it.
Is the cost of all this new expensive technology getting premium rises at 25%, 30%, 40% a year? Is the cost really getting dropped from your plan after you file a claim? Is this cost really the erosion of benefits and the denial of claims? Is this the type of business practice by private enterprise you have in mind when you champion Capitalism?
And more choices will help the issue... ensuring PROPER regulation and legislation to help the problems at hand.. but if you think for one moment that governmental red tape and corruption will help the situation, then I have a bride in Brooklyn to sell you

I don't need a bride from Brooklyn!

The insurance companies have Congress in their pockets. Can we agree on that? With that in mind, what types of real reform, real regulation do you expect?

The Democrats have been feverishly working on health care reform/regulations now since the summer. the Republicans, deep in the pockets of the insurance companies, have sat on their hands and obstructed during this whole episode.

Do you expect the Republicans, who have enjoyed a majority in the Congress for some time now, to do anything substantive? Do you expect Congress as a whole, still remembering how the insurance lobby has them in check, to produce any legislation that does not benefit the insurance companies at the expense of the sick and working class?

With friends like these, so the saying goes....

not if your employer gives health ins benefits

our employer's gave us many choices for ins. its your generation that fucked itself in the ass. livin on welfare to fuckin lazy to work. and now Osama wants them bailed out with your tax money. buddy you eagle is gonna scream !!!!!
A generational argument? Do you really expect that to hold water?

And I am assuming as you wrote: livin on welfare to fuckin lazy to work you meant "Living on Welfare too fucking lazy to work". I hope I am right. Please correct me if otherwise.

does the world owe you a living???? get a fuckin job !!!!!

With a DEM congress and this administration, I expect it to get worse, ESPECIALLY if government funded/mandated/subsidized/controlled health care is pushed through

I am for getting more lobbyists out of the system... but that is not going to happen now, and especially since we have seen Obama only pay lip service to such a problem

The only way to do it is to prevent the current leadership from pushing shit through.. and then to vote out the present leadership.... putting in those who stick to the principles of the republic as it was intended to be. putting in those who do not believe in the entitlement mantra. putting in those who will really put forth change and put forth the commitment to reduce government. Then and only then will you get true change in health care reform as needed. But I am in no way for trying to do this entitlement care just for the sake of doing something. As many parents have said over the years, do it right or don't do it at all

Yes... ;) :D and you did catch my typo... of course I meant bridge

You do have a choice... you are not being forced into anything

We can all argue if it was the excesses of the 60's and 70's that caused the decline of American supremacy or the rebuilding of Europe and the Far East, the ridiculous cost of the Cold War, or the MTV Generation's failure to launch. Probably all of them played a part.

Still this isn't a bad place to live by any stretch of the imagination. Quite opposite.

Dave, I argue we already have socialized medicine and in fact any reasonable new plan will extract payment from those who are milking the system more fairly.

Imagine: Person A might be a single 40 year old female who only makes $25k this year at Walmart. Ten years ago she may have had a good job with General Motors and have been able to positively pay into the system.

Why the Land of the Free Is So Conflicted About Health Care -- Politics Daily

:doubt: Hell!!! these days the words Land of the Free, is not as free to Americans as it once was. You pay now a very heavy price.Sure Freedom is not free, but now you just about have to sell the shirt off your back, just to survive, now days, and that's no lie.

Just reading some of the posts on these message boards should answer your question. In America we have a large group of people who are:

1. Stupid
2. Lazy (Too lazy to read for themselves, so they believe there are 'death panels' in the health care bill).
3. Ignorant (Not smart enough to comprehend something as complicated as health insurance reform nor are they smart enough to figure out what something really is versus what it's being called.)

Virtually no one in America gets to choose their insurance company, I think you underestimate how much difference a little competition can make.

Who doesn't get to choose their insurance company?

you are embarrassing yourself please stop

Couldn't answer, huh?

Well, it was rhetorical; Virtually Everyone in America can choose their insurance company, or not.

I choose the insurance company employer provides as an employment benefit. while I'm working, I also try to save for a rainy day (i.e. I become Unemployed). Then I go buy my own insurance. Usually I choose just catastrophic health insurance, which is quite affordable.

Have Americans become so childish that they need the Nanny State to take care of them? Perhaps. They don't Save Anything for Any Reason. Then when they find they cannot pay for an emergency, they get all teary-eyed and wonder why Uncle Sam isn't helping them.

So you're for doing nothing until an ideological shift has occurred?!? You want the Republicans to regain power and then storm forward on reform because....they have shown us they are willing to do it in the past? Because they are not in the pockets of the special interests?!? Because they will follow up by eliminating Social Security and Medicare?!?

Something dogmatic ideologues forget is some Socialist programs are not only necessary but successful.

The problem is bitter partisanship. No real ideas have come from the right side of the aisle. No substantive suggestions have been proffered by the Republicans.

While you wait for the Cultural Revolution to happen to the GOP, the rest of the country is sick (literally) and tired of inaction, obstructionism and the ideological tectonic shifts currently destroying the Republican party.

The time for waiting for the political stars to align is over! The time for action is now.

That 40 year old at WalMart has the individual responsibility to better their job situation if they want more... that is not my responsibility, your responsibility, Joe McFucknut in Idaho's responsibility, nor the government's responsibility

And I won't even get into the argument of how a union job like GM has actually hurt hard workers and the consumers in this country...

We do not have socialized medicine, for the most part... and the parts we do have (especially medicaid) needs to be done away with, unless the recipient becomes a ward of the state, deemed completely incapable of taking care of themselves, and losing the rights and privileges that are generally lost when someone is committed

The only fair 'new' system would be zero government contribution or running of it, reduce certain regulations to bring about more competition, and enact proper legislation to fix the true problem areas of denial of coverage, etc.... but no free rides, no added government red tape and bureaucracy, and no government mandates of mandatory insurance

Nice try.. I don't care if it is REP, DEM, CON, IND, or whatever other party, as long as the change comes in leadership.. removing the current corruption and overreaching within our government today... and I am for no change for merely the sake of change, especially towards government run/funded/subsidized/controlled health care.... PERIOD

I will take a flawed current system with freedoms over a socialized system... for YOU are the only one responsible for you and your well being, your care, your health, etc

Your want of action for the sake of action is frankly dangerous
