Why Land of the Free is so conflicted on health care..

America has the best health care in the world. Sorry that it wasn't socialist health care that got us there.
I have been working to pay premiums to a health care insurer. That insurer has raised premiums, cut benefits, dropped subscribers because they had the nerve to file a claim, denied me the prescriptions my doctor recommends because those drugs don't fall on their formulaires, and eaten up what little disposable income I earned.

Yup! America! Number 1!

in a pig's eye!

Change Insurers?

Then you have pre-exitsing conditions.

"Disposable income" means you gotta pay for YOUR healthcare instead of buying beer and cigarettes.

Are you complaining because you want ME to pay for YOUR healthcare so you can buy more Budweiser and Marleboughs?
I don't smoke. I don't drink domestic beer. I can't change insurers because I am on a group plan through my employer. that plan has increased its premiums by at least 27% a year for the past five years. It makes it impossible for my employer to pass raises along to the employees while some insurance company raises its fees.

and disposable income means I can't buy the things I would like. Thanks for imposing your own standards onto a total stranger! You must be a Conservative.

Proclaiming that we're not the dregs that some socialists think we are, or that some biased organization thinks we are, does not mean that we are without problems... and those problems need to be addressed.. WITHOUT having government takeover or government paid for or government subsidized care

Virtually no one in America gets to choose their insurance company, I think you underestimate how much difference a little competition can make.

Who doesn't get to choose their insurance company?

Most companies include medical insurance as part of your compensation so you end up with whoever they choose and virtually every employee is on that plan, or their spouse's employer's plan. Of course they don't reimburse you if you forego their insurance, you're just s.o.l.

I agree the government has caused some affordability issues and more government won't fix that. The fact is that very few Americans go without care. It is against the law to not treat someone here. They might not get the Lamborghini operation, but hey if they want that then pay for it.

I know we have problems with the insurance system in America, and the #1 problem is that it is not a free market system. The government wants a monopoly but haven't been able to get it before so they gave us our current oligopoly.

And now they want to take away our right to health care and make us dependent on the state.
You neglected to consider preventative care.

Sure, the emergency room won't turn you down, but that's not where cancers are detected, is it? Nor diabetes, nor a host of infirmities a regular check up can detect.

Emergency rooms do not provide prenatal care either.

Are you "pro life"?

You seem to be under the impression that insurance is supposed to give you free health care. If you have insurance you are paying for all your medical treatments + buying insurance against major calamities/expenses. So all those things you list are things that you are paying for whether you have insurance or not. Go ahead and pay for them with cash instead of insurance if you think they are a good idea. You'll also save money that way.
How much cash should a family have on hand to pay for cancer screenings, prenatal care, diabetes treatments and everything else? After paying ever increasing insurance premiums, how much cash do you think a working family has for the services the insurer has decided you no longer deserve?

This system is unsustainable! It is not Capitalism! It's highway robbery! And the Conservatives have so much dogma in front of their faces to realize just how badly the American working family is getting screwed by these insurance companies!

The insurance lobby has Congress in its pockets. We are going to get reamed for the sake of Capitalism. It's ridiculous.

You don't see me agreeing with how the congressional or governmental pockets are lined with the lobby money of the insurance companies or any other industry, do you??

STILL... having government takeover, subsidizing, or funding of healthcare is the way to fix it?? More corrupt and inefficient government involvement fixes nothing

no the big companies basically already have a monopoly and abuse it to the fullest. they keep rates with 5% of each other and raise them every year. they know they have a product that people need so they abuse the power. they also have immoral practices such as dropping people before operation even if they are paying for years and years. and emergency room doesn't get preventive care and without that its useless anyway.

free market isn't going to fix this one its just going to make rates higher b/c all companies are in together to fuck over people and eventually no one would get surgeries or oter major operations b/c companies would just keep dropping them more and more

Why not give it a shot? Virtually no one in America gets to choose their insurance company, I think you underestimate how much difference a little competition can make.

wrong. I chose mine. now what????

To the first part of your post I again state that you think insurance=free health care. To rephrase your question into a better one: how much of routine medical care and doctor visits do I think insurance should cover? None. That is antithetical to the idea of INSURANCE.

To the second part, I have to agree with much of that. There are real problems that need to be addressed such as the fact that an insurance company can deny a claim. It shouldn't be allowed. For instance your doctor says you need to be in the hospital for ten days and the insurance company says you only need three and will stop payments there. I think that is wrong and should be stopped. I never said everything is perfect. The world sucks but we don't have to make it worse.

I don't even think its robbery. Just the way it is. All this new expensive technology needs paid for, and everyone wants it.

Doctors visits are partially paid for by my insurer. In fact, at my doctor's office, there is a sign stating present your insurance card before signing in and sitting down. An uninsured doctor's visit can cost up to $100! Take a family of five and how quickly can that add up? Doctor's visits and routine care should be covered by any and all private plans. This promotes preventative care and helps stem the rise in treatable infirmities. It's not just catastrophic care, it's the cheaper preventative care we should be concerned with!

Is the cost of all this new expensive technology getting premium rises at 25%, 30%, 40% a year? Is the cost really getting dropped from your plan after you file a claim? Is this cost really the erosion of benefits and the denial of claims? Is this the type of business practice by private enterprise you have in mind when you champion Capitalism?

A generational argument? Do you really expect that to hold water?

And I am assuming as you wrote: livin on welfare to fuckin lazy to work you meant "Living on Welfare too fucking lazy to work". I hope I am right. Please correct me if otherwise.

Yes.. you should be concerned about your personal care and the care of your family... but how is that to make it the responsibility of the other citizens in the US to pay for what care you cannot afford? And if you want a private plan that covers preventative care, you have the freedom to buy it and the freedom to work as much as you choose to earn the necessary money to purchase it... I am not for the government taking away those freedoms from you, nor am I for the government taking away the freedoms of one group of citizen taxpayers to pay for the personal care of another group...

If anyone wants to voluntarily help those in need (like many of us do), I wholeheartedly support giving to worthwhile charities that do good for the truly needy and for research into cures and I especially support a great organization such as St. Jude's that helps families of kids with horrible illnesses and afflictions... but I am not for any taxpayer being forced to pay for the care of another... I am not for your freedoms of choice being taken away
