Why Land of the Free is so conflicted on health care..

:eusa_eh:.....inferior care?.....where in the hell is your doc located?.....

We are 37th on the list for industrialized nations.. That is inferiior..

No why are you a moron?? :cuckoo:

Ahhh.. the debunked WHO rankings that had an inherent bias towards socialist systems and did not ensure the same reporting on all participant stats... not to mention forgetting to take into account things revolving around free choice and things that have no bearing on the health care system...

But nice try

I'm sorry?? It was debunked when?? Care to backup your words?? And please spare me some rightwing tabloid site or something.. Show me a mainstream website or impartial information..

Until such time the WHO stands!! As it is facts!!

No... it is selective facts, pointed specifically at socialized systems....

RealClearPolitics - Articles - Why the U.S. Ranks Low on WHO's Health-Care Study

As posted SO many times... even Stossel points out the inherent flaws to the ranking system used

The WHO ranking is a biased and agenda driven ranking, plain and simple

America has the best health care in the world. Sorry that it wasn't socialist health care that got us there.

and many americans can't get access to that care b/c of asshole/greedy/immoral health insurance companies. get them out of the way and the rest of americans have a chance at a healthy life

I have been working to pay premiums to a health care insurer. That insurer has raised premiums, cut benefits, dropped subscribers because they had the nerve to file a claim, denied me the prescriptions my doctor recommends because those drugs don't fall on their formulaires, and eaten up what little disposable income I earned.

Yup! America! Number 1!

in a pig's eye!

With out the profits to be had for innovation and new meds there would be no rush of new innovations or new meds. Pretty simple concept even a child could grasp.

So countries with universal healthcare don't have medical advances or just socialist countries?

I agree the government has caused some affordability issues and more government won't fix that. The fact is that very few Americans go without care. It is against the law to not treat someone here. They might not get the Lamborghini operation, but hey if they want that then pay for it.

I know we have problems with the insurance system in America, and the #1 problem is that it is not a free market system. The government wants a monopoly but haven't been able to get it before so they gave us our current oligopoly.

And now they want to take away our right to health care and make us dependent on the state.

Even under socialist healthcare we would still see some advances, though not as many, and they would not be well received as the state would see any new treatment or innovation as an unnecessary expense.

You neglected to consider preventative care.

Sure, the emergency room won't turn you down, but that's not where cancers are detected, is it? Nor diabetes, nor a host of infirmities a regular check up can detect.

Emergency rooms do not provide prenatal care either.

Are you "pro life"?

The WHO ratings are up for discussion (think that was a different post). Put lightly there is a big mac vs loss of life expectancy ratio concern. If it ends the argument I'll give you 5 to 10 spots in ranking thanks to our terrible diets.

Problem is a fair number of quite poor folks in north st louis don't quite get the same healthcare as I do and they don't live as long on average. Do I care about that? Do you? Why should we, we're capitalists and some of us here who really love capitalism wish only those who can pay get their asthma medication. The WHO rankings do care about that though.

Change Insurers?

Then you have pre-exitsing conditions.

"Disposable income" means you gotta pay for YOUR healthcare instead of buying beer and cigarettes.

Are you complaining because you want ME to pay for YOUR healthcare so you can buy more Budweiser and Marleboughs?

no the big companies basically already have a monopoly and abuse it to the fullest. they keep rates with 5% of each other and raise them every year. they know they have a product that people need so they abuse the power. they also have immoral practices such as dropping people before operation even if they are paying for years and years. and emergency room doesn't get preventive care and without that its useless anyway.

free market isn't going to fix this one its just going to make rates higher b/c all companies are in together to fuck over people and eventually no one would get surgeries or oter major operations b/c companies would just keep dropping them more and more

I thought you had some sense until this post

I do not give credence to the soft version of the death panel talking point.

I will try to use a small scale example which is easy to relate to instead of fuzzy math.

It isn't immediately life and death but I went back and forth with my private insurance company concerning if I could have an ACL replacement surgery. Yup, that's right. Maybe they thought it would grow back on its own lol. Maybe they knew I would live anyway and hopefully go to another company where it would be a pre-existing condition and not covered. Maybe they figured putting me through another round of tests helped last quarter's bottom line by delaying the surgery. Who knows.

Why not give it a shot? Virtually no one in America gets to choose their insurance company, I think you underestimate how much difference a little competition can make.

You seem to be under the impression that insurance is supposed to give you free health care. If you have insurance you are paying for all your medical treatments + buying insurance against major calamities/expenses. So all those things you list are things that you are paying for whether you have insurance or not. Go ahead and pay for them with cash instead of insurance if you think they are a good idea. You'll also save money that way.
